Job summary

NTNU invites applications for a PhD Candidate to conduct research on Artificial Intelligence for managing shipbuilding supply chains. The PhD is housed in the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre, as part of the Production Management Research Group, with close collaboration to industry and public partners.

The position focuses on AI-enhanced planning across real-time and historical data to coordinate operations and supply chains, with strong emphasis on publishing high-quality research.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree with 120 credits at master's level (five-year Norwegian course)
  • Excellent written and oral English
  • Ability to obtain NATO security clearance
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies in operations and supply chains
  • Experience with machine learning or AI technologies
  • Industry or research in engineer-to-order manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Complete the doctoral education and obtain a PhD
  • Carry out high-quality research within AI-enhanced planning of shipbuilding supply chains
  • Apply qualitative case studies and literature reviews to understand engineer-to-order challenges
  • Apply quantitative methods like simulation and analytics to support production planning
  • Publish results in recognised journals and present at international conferences
  • Collaborate with industry and public partners in the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre

Education

Master's degree in relevant engineering/production/industrial fields
