Job summary

Baker Hughes in Stavanger invites an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. You will drive mechanical design and development for wireline and downhole technologies, from concept through commercialization, guiding analyses, drawings, tests, and documentation.

You will lead root-cause investigations, support lifecycle improvements, and collaborate with multiple functions to ensure safety, quality, and technical excellence across projects in a demanding environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Experience in downhole tool design and development within wireline, completions, drilling, intervention, or other downhole technology environments.
• Expertise in mechanical design, materials selection, manufacturing processes, and product qualification.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or NX.
• Experience with reliability engineering, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Familiarity with HPHT environments and harsh-environment product applications.
• Ability to manage multiple complex technical assignments and work with cross-functional teams.
• Fluent in English; Norwegian language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, analysis, and development of wireline tools and mechanical systems from concept through commercialization.
• Perform detailed mechanical analysis including stress, fatigue, vibration, tolerance stack-up, and FEA.
• Create and review drawings, 3D models, specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Plan and execute design verification and qualification testing (environmental, functional, reliability, field).
• Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions for field and manufacturing issues.
• Support lifecycle activities, cost reduction, obsolescence mitigation, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, Reliability, Service, Product Management, HSE and Commercial teams.
