Job summary

Wilhelmsen - Careers at Sea seeks an experienced Staff Captain for expedition vessels operating in Arctic and Antarctic waters. The role commands deck operations, safety oversight, and vessel security while leading a multinational crew.

The ideal candidate has minimum 2 years in Staff Captain or equivalent cruise-industry roles, with Polar Code certification, full Master licence, and strong knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, USPH/USCG requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience in Staff Captain or other relevant cruise industry role.
• Experience from expedition cruise and vessels operating in Arctic and Antarctic waters.
• Advanced Polar Code Certificate.
• Valid Class 1 Masters license and STCW 95 as amended.
• Good knowledge of SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL and MLC.
• Knowledge of USPH and USCG requirements.
• Strong leadership and team-leading abilities.
• Fluent English and a Scandinavian language.
• Positive references and pre-employment checks including medical and drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Oversee deck operations and safety on expedition vessels.
• Lead and develop multinational crews under challenging conditions.
• Ensure compliance with SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL, USPH and USCG requirements.

Required qualifications and competences:

• Minimum 2 years experience in the capacity of Staff Captain or other relevant experience from the Cruise Industry
• Experience from expedition cruise and vessels operating in Artic and Antarctic waters
• Advanced Polar Code Certificate
• Valid class 1 Masters license and certificates according to STCW 95 as amended
• Good knowledge about maritime rules and regulations (SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL, MLC)
• Good knowledge of the requirements under USPH and USCG
• Great leadership skills
• Fluent command in English and a Scandinavian language
• Great interpersonal skills and good team leading ability
• Good references
