Job summary

Jackson County is seeking a Turf Technician – Recreation to perform chemical applications on county properties, including fertilizing and applying on sports fields.

Responsibilities include safety inspections, maintaining storage areas, operating sprayers and spreaders, and preparing reports on pesticide usage for the Arena Complex Manager.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
• A one year certificate from a college or technical school in turf grass management.
• A valid Mississippi Drivers’ License is required.
• Minimum of one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine safety inspection on all spraying equipment.
• Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
• Operate sprayers and spreaders.
• Keep MSDS books current.
• Manage and inventory and usage applications, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.
• Work with assistants for pesticide and herbicide programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
