Qualifications

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for supervising the enforcement of animal control ordinances and the impounding and care of animals and for providing administrative support for department operations. Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; assists the public in completing adoption applications and other forms as needed; researches and resolves problems. Prepares daily financial reports. Processes a variety of paperwork and prepares a variety of regular and special reports. Processes accounts payable. Maintains department files and records. Maintains supply inventory; reorders as needed. Processes animal adoption; determines animal suitability of adoption; receives and reviews completed adoption forms; determines compliance and approves or denies adoptions. Cares for and feeds animals; assists in cleaning and maintaining facilities. Assists in the provision of care to animals; assists with heartworm tests and vaccinations. Receives calls and dispatches Animal Control Officers. Provides shelter tours. Schedules all vehicle maintenance. Performs level 1 employee discipline. Makes the officers’ work and on call schedule. Trains animal control officers. Attends court for county violations. Assists the Director in the management of annual budgets. Provides education to the public, including local schools. Photographs animals and posts to web sites. Assists with animal euthanasia. Issues citations for animal control violations. Microchips animals. Performs related duties. Requires weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
