This position participates in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems in county buildings. Responsibilities include diagnosing, identifying, and repairing potential problems; maintaining and repairing all HVAC equipment and components to manufacturer’s recommendations; adding chemicals to chiller systems to prevent damage; installing, servicing, repairing, and replacing refrigeration systems (including split systems, chillers, packaged units, heat pumps, etc.); performing routine preventive maintenance and non-scheduled maintenance of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, such as replacing mechanical seals, re-packing pumps and valves, replacing bearings and bells, checking for proper alignment, repairing fan coil units, brazing and soldering, calibrating controls, working on pressure vessels, replacing piping and fittings; developing system modification plans and estimating jobs for remodel activities; interpreting as‑built building blueprints and recommending modifications in accordance with applicable regulations; creating preventive maintenance checklists for new equipment; researching and selecting materials for HVAC installation, repair and maintenance; operating equipment management controls; managing radio tower specialized HVAC equipment; coordinating with other departments to schedule, plan and execute repairs; ensuring proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promoting workplace safety and environmental practices; training other employees in HVAC preventive maintenance, repair and care; and performing related duties.
