Job summary

Walton County Emergency Management Agency is seeking an HVAC Technician to maintain and repair HVAC systems across county facilities. The role includes diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting system upgrades and remodel planning.

Responsibilities cover installation, servicing and replacement of refrigeration equipment, interpreting blueprints, and coordinating with departments to schedule repairs. A valid GA driver’s license and relevant licenses are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with high school completion or equivalent.
• One to three years of HVAC experience, including lead mechanic, service technician, or residential supervisory work.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, identify, and repair HVAC problems.
• Maintain and repair HVAC equipment per manufacturers’ recommendations.
• Install, service, repair, and replace refrigeration systems (split systems, chillers, packaged units, heat pumps).
• Perform routine preventive and non-scheduled maintenance on HVAC equipment.
• Interpret blueprints and recommend modifications per regulations.
• Create preventive maintenance checklists for new equipment.
• Develop system modification plans and estimate remodel jobs.
• Train other staff in HVAC preventive maintenance and care.

Job Description

This position participates in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems in county buildings. Responsibilities include diagnosing, identifying, and repairing potential problems; maintaining and repairing all HVAC equipment and components to manufacturer’s recommendations; adding chemicals to chiller systems to prevent damage; installing, servicing, repairing, and replacing refrigeration systems (including split systems, chillers, packaged units, heat pumps, etc.); performing routine preventive maintenance and non-scheduled maintenance of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, such as replacing mechanical seals, re-packing pumps and valves, replacing bearings and bells, checking for proper alignment, repairing fan coil units, brazing and soldering, calibrating controls, working on pressure vessels, replacing piping and fittings; developing system modification plans and estimating jobs for remodel activities; interpreting as‑built building blueprints and recommending modifications in accordance with applicable regulations; creating preventive maintenance checklists for new equipment; researching and selecting materials for HVAC installation, repair and maintenance; operating equipment management controls; managing radio tower specialized HVAC equipment; coordinating with other departments to schedule, plan and execute repairs; ensuring proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promoting workplace safety and environmental practices; training other employees in HVAC preventive maintenance, repair and care; and performing related duties.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with high school completion or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand basic principles relevant to major duties, corresponding to completion of an HVAC apprenticeship/internship or experience as lead mechanic, service technician, service supervisor, or residential supervisory experience for one to three years.
• Possession or ability to obtain State of Georgia Conditioned Air license, EPA Section 608 Technician Certification license, and Board-approved Heat Loss and Gain and Duct Design license.
• Valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
