Job summary

European Space Agency - ESA is seeking two Power Management Engineers at ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands. You will contribute to power system design, analysis and control for space missions, working within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will bring hands-on hardware experience, lab proficiency, and strong project support skills, with a master's degree and several years of relevant space industry experience. The role offers challenging development opportunities and growth in a leading space research

Qualifications

• Master's degree in electrical engineering (or similar) with around 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience on design of power systems at early phase stages of space missions.
• Experience of power system analysis, including power and energy budget assessment.
• Experience of DC/DC converter design and verification.
• Experience of power converter control.
• Experience of digital control and FPGA programming.
• Experience in the use of GaN and SiC switches for power conversion.
• Experience in the use of electrical simulation tools and the modelling of power conversion circuits and systems.
• Knowledge of secondary power system analysis and verification.
• Knowledge of distribution system analysis and verification.
• Knowledge of power processing units (PPUs) for propulsion systems.
• Knowledge of power systems for smallsats.

Responsibilities

• Providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of power management and power distribution throughout all project phases.
• Participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals.
• Identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution.
• Contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agency’s technology programmes.
• Defining, initiating and managing R&D activities covering both long- and short-term needs.
• Fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cutting-edge technologies and system architectures.
• Laboratory activities, as required.
• Monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining state-of-the-art expertise.
• Contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.
