We are looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join our Akkodis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands.

Tasks to be performed:

Mission Support:

  1. Provide power systems technical support to ESA for:
  2. Small and fast-track science missions
  3. Earth Explorer and Small EOP (Earth Observation Programme) missions
  4. Telecom missions
  5. Class Beta, Gamma, and Delta missions with high technical risk or accelerated timelines
  6. Support ESA Technical Officers and Technical Responsibles on specific missions as required
  7. Perform calculations and mission-related simulations
  8. Review unit and system-level technical documents
  9. Provide detailed feedback and recommendations to ESA Power Systems Architecture teams

Launcher and CubeSat Development:

  1. Provide power system expertise in the development of European launchers
  2. Support CubeSat developments across all ESA applications

R&D Activity Support:

  1. Support ESA R&D activities through:
  2. Calculations, simulations, and technical reviews
  3. Providing feedback on design and performance findings
  4. Assist ESA Technical Responsibles in managing industrial R&D contracts:
  5. Day-to-day activity development
  6. Organizing monthly meetings and reviews
  7. Reporting and progress evaluation

Hands-On Laboratory Activities:

  1. Provide support within the ESA Space Power Laboratory for:
  2. PCB design and development
  3. PCB integration and testing
  4. Maintain and manage power systems architecture laboratory infrastructure

Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) Studies:

  1. Participate in system-level studies not related to large ESA missions
  2. Conduct simulations using tools such as PEPS/EcosimPro
  3. Develop new simulation models and provide study feedback to ESA

Laboratory Management:

  1. Support lab operations, including:
  2. Procurement of equipment and EEE components
  3. Coordination of lab inspections and maintenance activities

To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background / experience is required:

  1. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  2. Strong background in space power systems engineering with relevant project support experience
  3. Broad knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems
  4. Experience in early-phase power system design and performance assessment
  5. Proficient in power and energy budget analysis, distribution systems, and secondary power systems
  6. Practical knowledge in DC/DC converter design, control, and verification
  7. Hands-on experience in hardware development, laboratory testing, and PCB work
  8. Familiarity with electrical simulation tools (e.g., PEPS, EcosimPro)
  9. Experience supporting power systems during the Launch and Early Operations Phase (LEOP) of space missions
  10. Experience managing and monitoring industrial activities, including participation in design and review processes
