Job summary

Alfen is seeking a Senior System Engineer for the IT Infrastructure team to design, manage, and optimize our hybrid infrastructures. You will drive digital transformation, implement workloads, and collaborate across security, applications, and support functions.

You will lead projects, contribute to roadmaps, and mentor teammates while ensuring robust, scalable platforms. A strong Azure, networking, and automation background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5–7 years in an infrastructure role (on-prem, cloud or hybrid).
• Experience leading projects or technical teams.
• Deep knowledge of Microsoft platforms (Azure, Entra ID, 365, AD).
• Virtualization with Hyper-V/VMware; containers and automation tooling.
• Networking knowledge (Cisco and Azure Networking).
• Familiar with ITIL, RBAC, monitoring and observability.
• Experience with IaC and workplace management is a plus.
• Linux knowledge is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead lifecycle projects, upgrades, and transitions within infra and platform services.
• Develop and implement automation solutions (PowerShell, Azure CLI, DevOps, IaC).

What will you do?

As a Senior System Engineer at Alfen, you are the go-to specialist for hybrid information technology infrastructures. You design, implement, and manage robust and scalable platforms that are vital to our organization. In addition to managing our hybrid infrastructure, you will also be involved in designing and setting up new applications and workloads that run on it. You will also contribute to other information technology infrastructure domains such as networking, automation, identity and access management, and workplace management. Besides your technical role, you also take on a strategic position: acting as a sparring partner for colleagues in the team, collaborating with other teams such as security, applications, and support, and engaging with business stakeholders.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Designing, managing, and optimizing hybrid infrastructures, including Microsoft Azure Cloud and on-premises systems.
• Leading lifecycle projects, upgrades, and transitions within infrastructure and platform services.
• Developing and implementing automation solutions (PowerShell, Microsoft Azure Command Line Interface, Microsoft DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code).
• Monitoring performance, availability, and cost efficiency of the infrastructure.
• Leading domain-specific projects and serving as the technical point of contact for stakeholders.
• Supporting assessments and ensuring solutions meet both functional and technical requirements.
• Coaching colleagues, promoting knowledge sharing, and contributing to the professional growth of the team.
• Contributing to standards, best practices, and strategic roadmaps.

What do we ask of you?

• A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in information technology or a related field.
• At least five to seven years of relevant experience in an infrastructure role (on-premises, cloud, or hybrid).
• Proven experience leading projects and/or taking on a technical leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft platforms (Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft Active Directory Hybrid).
• Experience with virtualization (Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware), Microsoft Azure Local, containers (Docker, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service), and automation tooling.
• Knowledge of networking infrastructure (Cisco and Microsoft Azure Networking).
• Familiarity with frameworks such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library, security principles, role-based access control, and monitoring and observability tools.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with workplace management (Microsoft Intune) and identity and access management is an advantage.
• Knowledge and experience with Linux is an advantage.
