Job summary

Alfen is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot our BESS installations at customer sites across the Netherlands. You will lead field activities, perform preventive maintenance, and work closely with Support Engineers to ensure safety, uptime, and performance.

You will bring 7+ years of field service experience, LV/HV knowledge, Siemens PLC expertise, and willingness to travel. A driving license and NEN/NEN certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• MBO-4 or HBO degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Automation.
• 7+ years of field service experience with supervisory responsibility.
• Experience with LV/HV installations and power electronics.
• Knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens) and embedded software.
• IV/WV authorisations (or willingness to obtain).
• NEN 3140/3840 certified (or willing to obtain).
• VCA VOL (BHV a plus).
• Fluent Dutch and English (written and spoken).
• Driver's license B and willingness to travel domestically and abroad.

Responsibilities

• Execute (annual) maintenance plans focusing on safety, performance and compliance.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and control faults.
• Replace, install and configure components (power electronics, sensors, cables, UPS, inverters).
• Perform measurements, testing and commissioning on LV/HV installations per NEN 3140/3840.
• Document test results and activities in service reports.
• Collaborate with Support Engineers for root-cause analysis and long-term fixes.
• Monitor contractual KPIs like uptime and response times.
• Lead and mentor the field team.
• Participate in on-call duties and shift work.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated and skilled Senior Field Service Technician to join our team and contribute to the growth of our smart battery system solutions. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting BESS installations at our customers' sites.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Field Service Technician at Alfen, you are the face of our organisation in the field. You work on advanced installations throughout the Netherlands (and occasionally abroad), ensuring optimal performance, safety and uptime. You perform preventive maintenance, resolve faults, replace components and support commissioning activities. Together with our Support Engineers and Product Teams, you provide valuable feedback to continuously improve our products and processes.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities Include

• Executing (annual) maintenance plans with a strong focus on safety, performance and compliance.
• Analysing, diagnosing and resolving electrical and control-related faults.
• Replacing, installing and configuring components (e.g. power electronics, sensors, cables, UPS, inverters).
• Performing measurements, testing and commissioning on LV/HV installations in accordance with NEN 3140/3840.
• Documenting test results, findings and activities in clear service reports.
• Collaborating with Support Engineers for fast root‑cause analysis and long-term solutions.
• Monitoring contractual KPIs such as uptime, response times and turnaround times.
• Identifying and advising on improvement opportunities (product, process, service).
• Participating in on‑call duties and shift work when required.
• Guide and mentor the team.

What do you bring?

• A completed MBO‑4 or HBO degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Automation.
• 7+ years of relevant field service experience and supervisory experience in B2B environments.
• Proven knowledge of low‑and high‑voltage installations (LV/HV) and power electronics.
• Experience with PLC systems (e.g. Siemens) and embedded software is a strong plus.
• IV/WV authorisations (or willingness to obtain them quickly); NEN 3140/3840 certified.
• VCA VOL (BHV is a plus).
• Excellent command of Dutch and English (spoken and written).
• A driver’s licence (B), strong self‑organisation skills and flexibility (on‑call/weekend/evening).
• Willingness to travel frequently within the Netherlands and occasionally abroad.
