Job summary

Appical, the onboarding platform, seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to own core Ruby on Rails services and shape the backend platform's evolution. You’ll ship value in small increments and align speed with reliability.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive API/data-model changes, and help craft a modular architecture as we scale. 6–10+ years in production software, ideally SaaS, and strong testing, observability, and CI/CD are essential.

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years building production software, preferably SaaS.
• Strong experience with Ruby on Rails and API design.
• Experience in scalable backend architectures and observability.
• Ability to mentor and lead by influence.

Responsibilities

• Lead backend design and rollout of features in Ruby on Rails.
• Own system quality, performance, reliability, security, and cost.
• Evolve APIs and data models for growth and reliability.
• Break down complex work with product and design, providing crisp estimates.
• Raise engineering standards: CI/CD, tests, documentation, and post-incident learning.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices.
• Contribute to a modular service architecture as the team scales.
• Communicate trade-offs clearly focusing on customer value.
