Job summary

GitLab, a remote-global software company, is seeking a Backend Engineer to work on the CI/CD observability stack. You will contribute to the foundational CI infrastructure, optimize data handling, and build observability features for the Runner Fleet while collaborating with product and infra teams.

The role requires deep Ruby on Rails experience, PostgreSQL expertise, and a passion for scalable, reliable systems in a fast-paced, highly asynchronous environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with platforms or large-scale applications.
• Familiarity building and deploying software with CI/CD or internal tooling.
• Familiarity with distributed, scalable and reliable systems.
• Strong English communication in a remote/async environment.
• Experience in agile software development processes.
• Self-motivated and collaborative, with good organizational skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and uphold shared values.

Responsibilities

• Implement performance and scale improvements for GitLab CI in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Infrastructure teams to establish best practices for a sustainable platform.
• Advocate for reliability, security, and performance improvements.
• Write clean, well-documented code that meets internal standards for a high-scale web environment.
• Identify and address technical debt; propose and implement solutions.
• Deliver small features and improvements with minimal guidance, contributing to larger projects.
