Job summary

ING Bank in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior DevOps/SRE Engineer to own the platform, driving automation, reliability and observability across a Linux-based infrastructure serving critical banking systems.

You will lead deployments, incident response, and collaborate with platform engineers in an Agile environment, with hybrid work options and a focus on security and resilience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering.

This is a strongly hands-on engineering role. You should be able to demonstrate practical implementation experience and explain how you have applied Linux/RHEL, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring & observability in production environments.

ING Bank is seeking a Senior DevOps/SRE Engineer to join their Platform Engineering team at their Amsterdam Cedar office. In this role, you will take full ownership of the DevOps platform, driving automation, reliability, and operational excellence across a Linux-based infrastructure serving critical banking systems.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the DevOps platform, automating configuration via Ansible, deployments through Azure DevOps and GitHub pipelines, and operational tasks using Python and Shell scripting
  
• Ensure complete visibility across Deployments, Operations, Production Support, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Backup & Restore, Security Monitoring, and Full Stack Observability
  
• Take ownership of Linux (RHEL) platform operations, ensuring stability, performance, security, and continuous improvement
  
• Implement and optimise monitoring and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry (OTEL), and ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
  
• Support and execute High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) testing activities
  
• Manage lifecycle of platform components including Operating Systems, Middleware, Certificates, User Access Management, Vulnerability Remediation, and Security Patching
  
• Identify and resolve root causes of incidents and recurring issues, proposing sustainable solutions
  
• Drive continuous deployment and delivery using Azure DevOps and GitHub pipelines
  
• Collaborate within Agile/Scrum squads, working closely with Technical Product Owners and stakeholders

Work environment

You will work within a collaborative Agile/Scrum team at ING Bank's Cedar office in Amsterdam. The role offers hybrid flexibility, allowing you to work from home or the office garden. You will collaborate closely with platform engineers, application teams, and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and automation across the infrastructure. Please note: This position is only open to candidates who are currently based in the Netherlands.

Requirements

• 5+ years' experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering roles
  
• Strong hands-on Ansible experience, including building, configuring, and maintaining automation for configuration management and operational tasks
  
• Proven Linux administration expertise, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including troubleshooting, performance tuning, patching, and operational support
  
• Strong hands-on CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Pipelines, including building, configuring, and maintaining pipelines
  
• Experience with DevSecOps tooling such as Git, SonarQube, and Checkmarx
  
• Strong hands-on experience with production monitoring and observability, including alerting, logging, metrics, tracing, and troubleshooting, using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry (OTEL), and ELK Stack
  
• Experience with root cause analysis and incident management in production environments
  
• Proficiency in automation scripting using Python and Shell
  
• Experience with containerisation and virtualisation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, VMware, OpenShift, or OpenStack
  
• Good understanding of REST APIs and service integrations
  
• Good understanding of database and RDBMS concept
  
• Good understanding of DevOps, SRE, Reliability Engineering, and Observability concepts
  
• Strong analytical skills, proactive mindset, and excellent communication abilities

What we offer

• A contract until 31 August 2027, with the possibility of extension.
  
• A salary range of €4,596.95 – €5,892.02 gross per month, based on 36 hours per week and depending on experience.
  
• Additional benefits, including holiday allowance, a 13th-month payment, and pension contribution.
