Job summary

Booking.com is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to set the technical vision for the AI Application Platform and intelligence products. You will drive architectural guidelines, establish reusable patterns, and lead cross‑functional teams across data engineering, ML, and platform engineering.

You will pair with product and data science teams to deliver scalable, measurable outcomes, shaping how travelers discover, plan, and book with intelligent, data‑driven experiences.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience.
• Proven track record of driving complex technical initiatives at scale.
• Hands‑on experience with production ML/AI systems and data pipelines.
• Experience with GenAI and foundation models in production contexts.
• Ability to design, build, and operate high-throughput, scalable distributed systems.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead scoping and redesign of systems with direct business impact.
• Define engineering patterns and standards for AI/ML capabilities across Marketplace.
• Drive technical direction of the AI Application Platform and associated products.
• Translate concepts into concrete artifacts and guiding principles.
• Act as tech lead on cross‑team projects and mentor engineers.
