Job summary

Booking.com in Amsterdam is seeking a Principal Data Engineer I to lead data engineering across Marketplace Data & AI. You will shape data models, pipelines, and interfaces that enable discovery, trust, and reuse across tracks, including Traveller Intelligence and AI Experience.

You will drive hands-on problem solving on complex Spark/Flink workloads, define shared data infrastructure standards, and align data investments with product needs through close collaboration with stakeholders across

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software development experience with at least 3 years in lead/architect roles.
• Experience with modern data management systems, architecture, and approaches including cataloging, lineage, data quality, and knowledge graphs.
• Experience applying compliance (SOx, GDPR, DMA) across services and platforms.

Responsibilities

• Oversee tracks within Marketplace Data & AI: Traveller Intelligence, Experimentation, Benefits & Relevance, AI Experience.
• Design and build data models, pipelines, and interfaces enabling data discovery, trust, and reuse.
• Tackle the hardest data problems: Spark/Flink pipelines, complex modelling, performance tuning.
• Propose and validate data infrastructure standards with architects and leads across tracks.
• Collaborate with SEMs, GPMs, and EMs to ensure data investments meet product needs.
