Clonable is seeking a Java developer to join a small team working on our translation proxy that powers live website translations. You will improve CMS compatibility, translation quality, and performance, and occasionally build internal tools.

The role offers 24-40 hours, a 12-month fixed-term contract with potential for extension, and a hybrid working model in the Netherlands. You will collaborate with a small team, deploy new features end-to-end, and engage with customers when needed.

Job Description

As a Java developer at Clonable, you will work with a small team on our core software: the translation proxy that allows websites to be translated live. All web pages of our clients' clones are generated by this piece of software. The proxy works with dashboard to apply all the rules set up by our customers to the translations.

Within the proxy, you will work on improving compatibility with different CMS systems and improving translation quality by deploying translation algorithms more effectively. You will also improve performance and work with the dashboard team on new features within Clonable. In addition, you will occasionally resolve customer technical issues that cannot be resolved by our support department itself. Occasionally you will also create internal tools that make your colleagues' work easier.

What your work looks like

You will work with some other developers to extend and improve the functionality of Clonable. Oftentimes you will build a new feature on your own from inception to deployment. For larger projects, you work with your colleagues where the project is divided into smaller parts.

Sometimes projects are also set up that will run completely independently. In these types of projects, you get a lot of freedom in terms of programming language, framework, and libraries. Some examples are our editor (standalone React module) and our character counter (internal Python tool).

Because our team is small, we do not work with Scrum or other development frameworks. So no daily stand-ups and other meetings just for the sake of having a meeting. Instead, we consult informally with each other when there are questions and in this way we can quickly implement new features.

Clonable aims to make internationalizing your website child's play. Trade nowadays runs largely over the Internet, but often stops at the national border because of the language barrier. With Clonable, owners of websites and web shops can cross borders without much effort. With our solution, they do not have to set up a separate website for this purpose, but everything remains linked to the original site, so that business processes only need to be adjusted minimally. This significantly lowers the threshold for doing business abroad.

Job requirements

We are looking for someone who knows how to build things in the context of a bigger picture. Theoretical knowledge about algorithms, computer architecture or networks are less important. Experience with server management and infrastructure automation.
