Job summary

Mainfreight Europe is seeking a System Engineer to support Windows Server, storage, and VMware environments across multiple European sites. The role involves designing, implementing and maintaining infrastructure to meet business needs, with a focus on performance and security.

Collaboration with cross-regional teams and external partners is essential. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in a Microsoft environment, strong AD/Azure/SSCM experience, VMware expertise, and a willingness to travel to

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in computer science, information science, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years in a Microsoft environment with AD, Azure, SSCM knowledge.
• Microsoft certification as a core competency.
• Experience with SQL is a plus.
• Strong background in storage management, preferably HPE storage.
• VMware experience for 5-7 years; Linux knowledge (RHE) is a plus.
• Reverse engineering experience is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Willingness to visit remote locations and work outside business hours.
• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day operations on Windows Servers, Storage and VMware.

• Plan and implement infra changes to improve performance and security.
• Perform storage and server data backup, data migration and DR operations.
• Perform software and OS upgrades.
• Troubleshoot system or platform performance issues.

• Provide technical guidance to other IT engineers.
• Stay up-to-date with infrastructure developments and global standards.
• Work on European IT projects.

Job description

It’s all about Systems!

As System engineer based in ‘s-Heerenberg, Ostend or Cluj you will be working in a widely varied role, with multiple responsibilities and challenges. In your role as system engineer you will be:

• Support the day-2-day operation on Windows Servers, Storage and VMWare;
• Design, build and test systems and platforms meeting business needs and application specifications;
• Plan and implement changes to infrastructure with the goal of enhancing performance and security;
• Preform storage and server data backup, data migration and disaster recovery operations;
• Preform software and operating system upgrades;
• Provide technical support by troubleshooting problems related to system or platform performance;
• Document procedures and troubleshooting procedures related to systems, software and hardware;
• Work with business applications owners, developers, vendors, consultant, contractors and IT team
• members from other regions;
• Provide technical guidance and assistance to other IT engineers;
• Stay up-2-date with the latest infrastructure developments;
• Cooperate with other regional System Engineers at global level, deploying global standards;
• Work on European IT projects.

You will the ability to:

• Understand the critical role that IT plays in helping accelerate the business;
• Understand our business and the needs of both internal and external customers;
• Supervise and lead a team of engineers, have a ‘Can Do’ and ‘Easy To Deal With’ mentality.

The ideal candidate has:

• Experience in computer science, information science, or similar;
• Certified in Microsoft as a core competency;
• At least 5 years working in a Microsoft environment with extensive AD, Azure and SSCM knowledge.
• Experience with SQL is a plus;
• Strong background in managing Storage preferably HPE technology;
• VMWare experience for 5-7 years; Linux knowledge (RHE) is a plus;
• Reverse engineering experience;
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills;
• Willingness to visit remote locations;
• Availability to work outside of business hours;
• Excellent in English, verbal and in writing;
• Flexible and a hands on mentality.
