Job summary

Alphatron Marine in Rotterdam is looking for a Solutions Engineer to design and install IT and AV systems onboard ships, from pre-sales to delivery, often involving SD-WAN and security considerations.

You will work with Sales and installation teams, traveling for installations; English and Dutch proficiency is essential. HBO/MBO+ level and a valid B license are required for this demanding, hands-on role.

Qualifications

• HBO working and thinking level or MBO+ with demonstrable relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of IT Networks.
• Several years of relevant work experience in roles like Pre Sales/Sales Engineer or Solutions Engineer.
• Broad technical knowledge of both IT and AV systems.
• Understand how technical systems support customer work processes and add value.
• Excellent knowledge of English and Dutch, both written and spoken.
• Driver's license B.
• Willing to travel and work outside office hours.
• Broad knowledge of network products.
• Knowledge and experience with TVRO and VSAT systems is an advantage.
• Interest in the maritime industry.

Responsibilities

What are you going to do?

As Solutions Engineer you are responsible for the IT and AV environment of customers. This environment can be both an existing and new environment. Among other things, you will build Network, WIFI, CCTV and IPTV systems. These systems come on board ships and are often linked to our satellite and mobile Internet connections. These Internet connections hang behind your designed router/firewall and can be anything between a simple Internet solution and a complex SD-WAN solution. You will be involved in designing changes and projects, configuring technical aspects of a new system and testing and maintaining installed systems. Your knowledge and expertise are also gladly used in various pre-sales processes, because you devise the best solution for the customer together with the Sales Manager. When the system is sold, you get to work building the system. Your colleagues from the installation branch take care of the onboard installation. Sometimes it is necessary for you to commission the installed systems on board. Usually you work from our office in Rotterdam, but it also happens that you are abroad for installation and commissioning.

You will see that you are involved in a project throughout the entire process from pre sales to delivery.

Because we are very flexible in our choice of products and/or manufacturers, a high degree of general technical knowledge in the field of network protocols and hardware is required. Here you can think of VLANS, Routing, Multicast, Spanning-tree, Cyber Security, Firewalls

Our ITV, CCTV and IPTV products are generally custom systems. We want to standardize this. We can make good use of your knowledge and skills for this.

Your tasks in brief:

• Design and implementation of projects.
• Proactive management of ITAV environments of our customers
• (Internal) customer advice on complex issues (technical support to sales)
• Provide technical support as a 3rd line expert
• Standardization of ITAV systems
• Commissioning of delivered systems
• Participate in the 24/7 emergency service (approximately once every 5 weeks).

Who are you?

To succeed in the role of Solutions Engineer, you should consider the following qualifications:

• HBO working and thinking level or MBO+ with demonstrable relevant work experience
• Knowledge of IT Networks
• Several years of relevant work experience (e.g. in a role as Pre Sales/Sales Engineer, Technical Account Manager or Solutions Engineer)
• Broad technical knowledge of both IT and AV systems
• You understand the technical systems, how they work and how they can support customer work processes and add value
• Excellent knowledge of English and Dutch, both written and spoken
• Driving license B
• Willing to travel and work outside office hours
• Broad knowledge of network products
• Knowledge and experience with TVRO and VSAT systems is an advantage
• Of course you have an interest in the maritime industry
