Job summary

Conscious Hotels in Amsterdam is seeking a Head of Technical Services to oversee the technical operations across five Conscious Hotels. You will coach the Technical Services teams, coordinate maintenance contracts, and drive safety, quality, and energy efficiency initiatives.

You report to the Head of Operations Conscious Hotels and work with Hotel Managers, external partners, and suppliers. Availability 32–40 hours per week and preferably based in Amsterdam.

• Look for recurring issues and drive maintenance improvements across all locations.

In our hotels, hospitality is at the heart of everything we do. To deliver a great guest experience, our buildings and technical installations need to be safe, reliable, efficient, and well maintained. As Head of Technical Services, you oversee and support the technical operations of our five Conscious Hotels. Each hotel has its own Technical Services employee, who works under the direct leadership of the Hotel Manager or Rooms Division Manager of that location. Your role is to connect, coach, and support these colleagues and to be their technical sparring partner when challenges become more complex.

You combine technical knowledge with coordination and oversight, while still being hands-on when needed. When a larger or more complex technical issue occurs, you work alongside the Technical Services employee to investigate the problem and find the right solution. You manage our central maintenance contracts with external partners, ensure preventive and corrective maintenance is carried out properly, and help maintain high standards for safety, quality, and sustainability across all our hotels. You report directly to the Head of Operations Conscious Hotels.

In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Operations Conscious Hotels.

What you will do:

• Coach and support the Technical Services employees across our five Conscious Hotels, helping them develop their technical knowledge and find solutions to more complex technical challenges;

• Step in when larger or more complex technical breakdowns occur and work together with the local Technical Services employee to diagnose and resolve the issue;

• Act as the technical sparring partner for Hotel Managers and Rooms Division Managers and advise them on maintenance, installations, repairs, and technical improvements;

• Manage our central maintenance contracts and relationships with external technical partners;

• Ensure that planned preventive maintenance is carried out on time and according to the agreed standards, and follow up on corrective maintenance where required;

• Monitor the quality and execution of work carried out by external contractors and suppliers;

• Take a coordinating role in smaller projects within the hotels when these have a significant technical component, from planning and alignment with the hotel to coordinating suppliers and overseeing execution;

• Help ensure our hotels provide a safe environment for guests and colleagues, with particular attention to fire safety and legionella management;

• Coordinate our in-house painter, who works across all Conscious Hotels. Together with the Hotel Managers, you plan painting and maintenance work in guest rooms and public areas;

• Support the hotels with larger maintenance projects and technical improvements and help determine when specialist external support is required;

• Work together with the Head of Operations to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption. You actively monitor our energy dashboard, analyse consumption and translate the data into practical improvements;

• Look beyond individual hotels and identify recurring technical issues and opportunities to improve maintenance, efficiency, and reliability across all five locations.

About you:

• You are an experienced Technical Services professional ready for the next step, or already have experience as a Head of Technical Services in a hotel, hospitality, or multi-site environment;

• You have several years of experience in technical services, building maintenance, or facilities engineering and have a broad understanding of building-related installations;

• You enjoy sharing your knowledge and coaching technical colleagues, but you are equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves and working alongside them when a technical challenge requires it;

• You are comfortable coordinating multiple locations, suppliers, maintenance contracts, and smaller technical projects at the same time;

• You understand the importance of preventive maintenance and know how to organise and monitor this effectively;

• You have knowledge of building and guest safety. Experience with fire safety and legionella management is a strong advantage;

• You have an eye for detail and understand that technical quality, appearance, and guest experience go hand in hand in a hotel;

• You are interested in sustainability and energy management and enjoy using data to identify opportunities for improvement;

• You are practical, proactive, organised, and able to communicate easily with Technical Services employees, Hotel Managers, external contractors, and management;

• Available for 32-40 hours per week and flexible when hotel operations require it;

• Preferably based in or near Amsterdam.
