Why your role matters
As a Data Center Operations Technician in the Hardware and Bare Metal team at i3D.net, you’ll be the hands-on expert ensuring the smooth operation of our global datacenter hardware. From installing and troubleshooting to maintaining and upgrading (move-add-change-delete), your work directly impacts the performance and reliability of the infrastructure powering some of the world’s largest (gaming) companies.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Setup & Maintenance:
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot datacenter hardware, including servers and network gear.
- Handle tasks like swapping servers, managing cables, and keeping racks organized.
- Set up RAID configurations, work with BMC ports, and image servers.
- Work with internal teams and vendors to handle deployments, maintenance, and new site setups.
- Keep documentation and the knowledge base up to date with everything you learn.
- Improve rack designs, cooling systems, and power management.
- Suggest smarter ways to work, making operations faster and more efficient.
At i3D.net, you’ll work with:
- Servers: From Dell R2XX to R7XX, Supermicro to HPE
- Baremetal Hardware: CPU architectures including AMD EPYC Genoa, Intel & more
- Networking: Mostly Juniper hardware, among other established manufacturers
What success looks like in the first year
- You’ve got this: You can handle installs, fixes, and maintenance on your own without blinking.
- Part of the crew: You take ownership, pitch in, and your input actually helps us get better as a team.
- You get the bigger picture: You understand how the datacenter ticks and can explain it clearly to teammates and customers.
Your profile
- Problem-solver: You’ve got 4+ years of experience troubleshooting hardware issues in data centers and know how to get things working again.
- Technically hands-on: Familiar with RAID setups, BMC ports, server imaging, and swapping or configuring hardware components.
- Network-aware: You understand how to troubleshoot networks, handle cable management, and configure SFPs without a fuss.
- Physically present: You’re comfortable lifting servers and live within 50 km of our Rotterdam datacenter (VanNelle fabriek) for on-site shifts and on-call support.
- Language skills: You’re fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
- On-call ready: You’re okay with being on-call every 4–6 weeks (extra pay included)
- Willing to travel: Open to occasional international trips to support hardware rollouts across our global datacenter locations.
- You know the landscape: From server vendors to CPU generations and PDUs, you’ve seen the strengths and weaknesses of what’s out there.
- Remote vs Onsite: This is a hybrid role with regular onsite work at our Rotterdam datacenter (Van Nelle Fabriek). You're either already based in the Netherlands or open to relocating — we’ll support your move, as long as you have a valid EU work permit.
- Global Exposure: We operate our own international backbone network, with a presence in over 60 locations worldwide.
- State-of-the-Art Technology: Work with cutting-edge service providers and data center equipment.
- Competitive Perks: Enjoy great pay, an annual bonus, 25 vacation days (excluding national holidays), a travel allowance, and a premium-free pension.
- Skill Development: Level up with career guidance and education reimbursement.
- Gaming Perks: Get lifetime access to Ubisoft’s game library and two free games yearly.
- Stay Active: Use our in-house gym in Rotterdam or unwind in the game and music rooms
