Job summary

HR ProjectPartners BV is seeking a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to design and engineer high-safety solutions for offshore oil & gas EPC projects. The role ensures Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety deliverables meet IEC 61508/61511 and project requirements throughout the EPC lifecycle.

You will lead HAZOP, SIL, LOPA analyses, develop SRS, and coordinate with vendors and disciplines to maintain SIS/SIL deliverables across system boundaries.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years in Oil & Gas with functional safety experience (HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, SRS)
• EPC project experience required
• Offshore project experience strongly preferred
• SIS design and lifecycle per IEC 61508/61511 and related standards

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform functional safety analyses and studies across concept to detailed design.
• Develop and maintain Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS) for Safety Instrumented Systems.
• Act as Responsible Engineer for functional safety analyses and review vendor/subcontractor deliverables.
• Support method/procedure selection and optimize designs while ensuring compliance.
• Interface with I&E/ICSS, process safety, and other disciplines to ensure SIS/SIL deliverables alignment.
• Plan and deliver functional safety activities within agreed timeframes and budgets on EPC projects.
• Coordinate with vendors and third parties on functional safety scope and requirements.
• Capture lessons learned and assess change impact across system boundaries.
• May lead other engineers or act as Discipline Lead for functional safety scope.

Job description

The Senior Functional Safety Engineer designs and engineers solutions that achieve high standards of safety, reliability, and sustainability for offshore oil & gas projects, ensuring Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety deliverables meet international codes, industry standards, and project requirements throughout the EPC lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead and/or perform functional safety analyses and studies, including HAZOP, SIL classification/determination, LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis), SIL verification, and functional safety assessments (FSA), across concept, FEED, and detailed design phases.
• Develop and maintain Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS) for Safety Instrumented Systems, and ensure SIS design complies with IEC 61508/61511 and applicable company/industry standards.
• Act as Responsible Engineer with technical ownership of functional safety analyses and studies conducted by third parties, reviewing and validating vendor/subcontractor deliverables.
• Support the selection of methods and procedures, and optimize designs within scope of specification while maintaining compliance with international codes and regulations.
• Interface with I&E/ICSS, process, and process safety disciplines to ensure consistency of SIS/SIL deliverables across system boundaries.
• Proactively plan and deliver functional safety activities and deliverables within agreed time frames and budgets on EPC projects.
• Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and third parties on functional safety scope, in line with contractual and internal requirements.
• Capture and apply lessons learned, assessing change impact within and across project system boundaries.
• May lead other engineers on a defined scope of work, and may act as Discipline Lead (Functional Safety / I&E) for an assigned scope.

Education

Experience

• 10–15 years in the Oil & Gas industry, with substantial hands‑on experience in functional safety analysis and studies (HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, SIL verification, SRS development).
• EPC project experience required.
• Offshore project experience strongly preferred.
• Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design and lifecycle per IEC 61508/61511
