Job description

About HallTech

HallTech is a deep-tech startup building a new thin-film deposition platform for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing. We operate at the intersection of plasma physics, vacuum engineering, and advanced materials.

We are scaling from a working proof-of-concept to a fab-ready system out of our new R&D lab on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

The role

You will own the whole thermal design of our deposition platform. That means thermal budgets, cooling architecture, vacuum flow simulations, and thermal management of high‑power plasma sources and vacuum systems. You will work directly with our source engineer, CTO, and industrialisation lead to make design decisions that go straight into hardware.

This is not a support role. Your simulations will drive critical design choices on timelines measured in weeks, not quarters.

What you will do
  • Build and own the thermal model of the plasma source: steady‑state and transient, including thermal expansion effects on mechanical tolerances
  • Design and validate cooling solutions (water‑cooled plates, radiation shielding, cryo panel thermal protection)
  • Simulate vacuum flow and pumping performance for custom chamber designs at multi‑kilowatt power levels
  • Advise on material selection based on thermal constraints (operating temperature, thermal conductivity, expansion coefficients)
  • Work with external suppliers (cryo panel manufacturers, chamber builders) to validate thermal load specifications
  • Support next‑generation source design with thermal and flow input from day one
What we are looking for
  • MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, applied physics, aerospace engineering, or a related field
  • Strong hands‑on experience with ANSYS
  • Proven track record in thermal design for vacuum or high‑power systems
  • Deep understanding of heat transfer fundamentals: conduction, convection, radiation, view factors
  • You have worked on hard engineering problems before. Not textbook exercises. Real hardware, real constraints, real deadlines.
  • High agency and self‑starting. You do not wait to be told what to do next. In a startup, you define your own function and build it from scratch.
Nice to have
  • Experience with cryo pumping systems or vacuum chamber design
  • Familiarity with plasma physics or plasma‑surface interactions
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment, space propulsion, or fusion engineering
  • Strong hands‑on experience with COMSOL, and/or SolidWorks Simulation
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics / CFD for gas flow in molecular flow regime
What we offer
  • A founding‑stage role in a company solving one of the hardest problems in semiconductor manufacturing
  • Direct impact on hardware that ships to fabs
  • A small, expert team where your work is visible and consequential
  • Competitive compensation with equity participation
