About HallTech

HallTech is a deep-tech startup building a new thin-film deposition platform for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing. We operate at the intersection of plasma physics, vacuum engineering, and advanced materials.

We are scaling from a working proof-of-concept to a fab-ready system out of our new R&D lab on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

The role

You will own the architecture of our deposition platform. The full system, mechanically led: vacuum, precision mechanics, thermal, motion, and the interfaces to electrical, controls, and software. You define how the machine is built.

Ownership runs deeper than the first prototype. You make sure every part of the system matures into a volume-ready, serviceable, engineerable design. For every subsystem you make the call: develop in-house, outsource, or buy off the shelf. Cost, lead time, IP, and risk all sit in that decision, and the decision sits with you.

You work peer-to-peer with our source, plasma, materials, and thermal engineers. Our Senior Mechanical Engineer turns your architecture into parts. You answer for the system as a whole.

This role exists because we are scaling from a working proof-of-concept to a fab-ready system. The physics works. The next phase is turning rapid hardware iterations into a manufacturable platform. That takes one person who holds the whole system in their head.

What you will do
  • Own the full system architecture: requirements, interface definitions, and the error budgets that tie vacuum, mechanics, thermal, and motion together
  • Drive every subsystem to maturity: from prototype part to a volume-ready, serviceable, engineerable design
  • Make the make/buy calls: in-house development versus outsourcing versus off-the-shelf, weighing cost, lead time, IP, and supply risk
  • Set design rules and run design reviews across the platform: tolerances, materials, vacuum compatibility, serviceability
  • Build the supplier and partner base for critical subsystems, from precision machine shops to module suppliers
  • Own system-level risk: identify the failure modes that kill uptime in a fab and design them out early
  • Carry the architecture of the next-generation platform from day one
What we are looking for
  • MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, precision engineering, or a related field
  • 12+ years designing high-precision systems that shipped
  • Deep vacuum experience: you have architected HV or UHV systems and know what leaks, outgasses, and drifts
  • Semiconductor equipment design experience: you have designed or architected tools that run in fabs or at OEMs
  • Proven full-system ownership: you have taken a machine from prototype through industrialisation
  • A track record of sharp make/buy decisions and the supplier management to back them up
  • High agency and self-starting. You do not wait for a mandate. You take the system and run.
Nice to have
  • Experience with thin-film deposition tools, plasma sources, or ion beam systems
  • Experience transferring a platform to a contract manufacturer
  • Design for manufacturing, assembly, and service on complex vacuum equipment
  • Reliability engineering on semiconductor production tools
