Job summary

Smith in Amsterdam is seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist to safeguard our import/export activities and advise management on regional and global regulatory requirements.

You will support internal and external audits, maintain customs master data (e.g., HTS classifications), work with freight forwarders, and translate regulations into actionable processes that balance compliance with business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in logistics or a related field is preferred.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Experience interpreting regulations and translating them into business practices.

We're excited to meet you and share what we love about Smith!Job Purpose:To support Operations and Legal teams by ensuring Smith’s compliance with regional and global trade compliance regulations.Essential Job Duties:Understand regional and global rules and regulatory requirements and advise management/adapt processes where requiredEnsure Smith’s adherence to regulatory requirements relating to activities such as import/export controls, etc.Provide general trade compliance guidance and support to Smith’s internal stakeholdersAssist in execution of internal and external audits relating to trade compliance and implementation of corrective actionsWork with Export Licensing and Quality Control teams to research and maintain customs related master data (e.g., part type classification information)Work with third party service providers (e.g., freight forwarders) to ensure proper execution of and documentation for international shipmentsInvestigate and report unusual business activity that may result in a violation and/or inquiry to senior managementJob QualificationsExperience:3+ years of trade compliance experience preferred3+ years of experience with HTS database management preferredPrior experience working in the semiconductor/electronics distribution industry a plusProficient oral and written communication skills in English are requiredMust be detail oriented and organizedSelf-motivated and able to work with minimum supervisionEducation:Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., logistics or supply chain) or equivalent job experience preferredCertifications:ECTI certification preferredSoftware Requirements:Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suiteExperience with DNB, Alliance or other trade compliance toolsAdditional Skills:Capable of interpreting regulations and translating them into business practicesStrong analytical, problem solving, negotiation, organizational and teaching skillsAbility to drive compliance behaviors in good balance with business objectivesWe are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
