Job summary

BYD Europe BV, located in Schiedam, Netherlands, seeks an experienced Legal Counsel to join its European team. The role focuses on drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, including distributor or dealer agreements, and advising on compliance across multiple European jurisdictions.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Law, 3+ years of relevant experience (in-house or private practice), strong cross-border negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional legal experience (in-house or private practice)
• Experience in commercial contracts, corporate law and legal compliance
• Strong negotiation skills, cross-cultural and multi-jurisdictional transactions
• Ability to develop and implement legal strategies and solutions
• Excellent analytical skills, precise and able to multi-task
• Proactive, diligent, team player and able to work independently
• Fluency in English; knowledge of other European languages or Chinese is a plus

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a variety of complex commercial contracts including distributor/dealer, supply, procurement and after-sales service agreements
• Cooperate with the business team to prepare for public procurement procedures
• Provide legal advice to management to identify and manage legal risk
• Handle disputes, coordinating litigation/arbitration with external lawyers
• Provide support on compliance matters
• Offer practical legal guidance to BYD’s management across business activities
• Summarize potential risks and provide training to the business team
• Address legal matters for various European countries
