Job summary

Workwize is seeking an Engineering Lead for Finance and Internal Tools in Amsterdam with hybrid options in the Netherlands or remote in EMEA. You will lead the team supporting billing, invoicing and internal ops—balancing people leadership with hands-on technical work.

You’ll collaborate with Product, Operations and Finance to shape the roadmap, ensure high-quality delivery, and mentor engineers. English fluency required, Dutch not needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a software engineer, including 1–2 years managing engineers with direct reports.
• Experience handling performance issues: setting expectations and giving feedback.
• Leadership style that can switch between directing and coaching.
• Ability to explain and defend viewpoints to senior stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience with a modern web stack (Laravel, Node.js, React).
• Track record delivering B2B web products end to end with non-technical colleagues.
• Daily use of AI tools in development work.
• Clear written and spoken English (Dutch not required).

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow engineers through 1:1s, feedback and growth plans.
• Set clear performance bar and address underperformance early.
• Own delivery of the team's roadmap and keep risks visible.
• Plan roadmap and quarterly goals with Product, Operations and Finance.
• Run planning, refinement and retros; represent the team with other teams.
• Maintain high standards on code review, testing, monitoring, security, incident follow-up.
• Hire new engineers for the team.
