Walton County Emergency Management Agency is seeking an Emergency Medical Services Shift Supervisor to oversee EMS shift operations, maintain the medication room, and respond to emergencies. The role involves transporting patients, documenting events, and coordinating with hospitals and EMS teams for effective care delivery.
The candidate will supervise staff, participate in training, and ensure compliance with regulations and protocols while maintaining records and reports.
This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of an assigned shift of personnel in the delivery of emergency medical services to area residents and visitors. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Senior Emergency Medical Services Shift Supervisor.” Supervises and directs the work of EMS personnel. Maintains the medication room; documents medications; monitors expiration dates. Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, child birth, strokes, seizures, sports and automobile accidents, and other traumatic and medical incidents. Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid and response guidelines. Provides general medical care and treatment to patients in an emergency situation as defined by state, local regulations, protocols and scope of practice. Communicates with medical personnel via 2‑way radio and telephone regarding injured persons' condition, vitals, and other relevant treatment information. Operates an assigned motor vehicle; cleans and fuels vehicle. Transports injured or sick persons to appropriate care facility. Maintains awareness of hospital diversion status and wait times. Reviews paperwork completed by shift personnel for accuracy and completeness. Completes reports and maintains records. Schedules and conducts staff meetings. Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification. Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed. Must approve or deny mutual aid to surrounding counties. Provides public safety demonstrations and screenings. Schedules personnel to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate state EMS certification(s).
