Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

This position is responsible for administering EMT-level and AEMT level emergency medical treatment to victims of accidents of other life‑threatening situations. Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, childbirth, strokes, diabetic seizures, sports and automobile injuries, and other traumatic and medical incidents. Deals with Covid patients, exposures, and decontamination of equipment, ambulances, living quarters, and personal items including clothing. Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid in accordance with guidelines. Communicates with medical personnel via two‑way radio, cellular phone, and telephone regarding injured persons, condition, vital signs, and other relevant treatment information. Inspects the cleanliness and working condition of ambulance on a daily basis: checks fluids, lights, electronics systems, and all controls; ensures that maps, protocol books, and appropriate forms are on board; restocks all medical supplies and ensures that all monitors and equipment are operational. Transports injured or sick persons to appropriate care facility. Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification. Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed. Provides public safety demonstrations; provides blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. Completes required reports and medical records. Assists in the maintenance of station quarters. Administers appropriate medications within their scope of practice. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain Georgia licensure with the State Office of Emergency Medical Service and Trauma as an Emergency Medical Technician.
