Job summary

Fortaegis in Amsterdam seeks a Distributed Network Engineer to anchor our networking, security and distributed systems teams. You will drive cross-organizational technical strategy and own design decisions across cloud and data-center environments.

You will work hands-on with Rust/Go, Kubernetes, and major clouds to scale control planes, optimize routing, QoS, and data flow, while mentoring teams and drafting RFCs.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in distributed systems, with staff-level impact.
• Deep expertise in routing TCP/IP, QoS, DHCP and data center/cloud networking.
• Backend engineering in Rust/Go with distributed systems experience.
• Experience designing PB-scale data processing with multi-tenant isolation.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker and cloud platforms (OCI/AWS).
• Strong communication to author RFCs and align distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as hands-on staff engineer for distributed networking architecture across multiple teams and roadmaps.
• Define and drive the technical strategy for routing, switching, and networking control planes at enterprise and ISP scale.
• Work with scalability, fault tolerance, and security with rigor.
• Develop control plane features: latency optimization, traffic distribution, multi-region resilience.
• Own the design of QoS systems, traffic shaping, and policy enforcement.
• Collaborate with Firmware, Security and Platform engineers toward a common goal.
• Work on observability, logging, and compliance visibility systems for network security at scale.
• Author RFCs, architecture decision records and technical specifications to shape direction.

We are looking for a Distributed Network Engineer to serve as a technical anchor across our networking, security and distributed system team. This is a high-leverage individual contributor role where you will work towards the direction for large-scale networking and control plane systems, drive cross-organizational technical strategy, and raise the engineering bar across multiple teams. You will operate at the intersection of deep hands-on engineering within the software division of Fortaegis We are looking for candidates with not only an exceptional skillset, but also an exceptional mindset, willing to go above and beyond to make our breakthrough product even better.

Job requirements

• 12+ years of hands-on experience in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or telecom networking, with a track record of staff-level or equivalent impact.

• Deep expertise in routing protocols TCP/IP, QoS, DHCP, and data center / cloud networking architectures.

• Strong backend engineering skills in Rust/Go with production-grade distributed systems experience.

• Proven ability to design systems processing PB-scale data with multi-tenant isolation and high availability.

• Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker and at least one major cloud platform (OCI, AWS, or equivalent).

• Deep understanding of low-level systems: packet processing, hardware interaction and control plane and data plane optimization.

• Excellent written and verbal communication — ability to author RFCs, present to leadership, and align distributed teams around a technical direction.
