Job summary

ZeroTier is seeking a Senior Back-End Engineer to architect and implement core features of our distributed Central Management Portal. You will design, extend RESTful APIs in Go and contribute to frontend when needed, within an execution-driven engineering team.

You will own API design, ensure scalability and security, and mentor others through code reviews while aligning with business objectives.

Qualifications

• Senior level experience building and owning distributed systems at scale.
• Advanced knowledge of Go service development and backend best practices.
• Experience integrating with and extending backend REST APIs.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with team members.
• Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment is a strong plus.
• Willingness to work occasionally on modern web technologies and frontend frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Build, ship and iterate on API endpoints and backend services in Go, turning product ideas into reliable platform features.
• Own the design and evolution of the public and internal APIs, ensuring speed, scalability and long term maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers to power great user experiences in our Central Portal.
• Develop and operate backend systems using PostgreSQL, PubSub, and OpenFGA, and other cloud-native services.
• Bake in security, testing and quality from day one to keep our public services safe and dependable as we scale.
• Improve and maintain our CI/CD pipelines and observability, helping the team catch issues quickly.
• Act as a senior technical reference in the team, through code reviews and mentorship.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer with strong expertise to architect and implement core features of our distributed and cloud based Central Management Portal. In this role you'll design, extend our RESTful APIs in Go while also contributing to our frontend when needed. You will work as part of an execution focused engineering team, taking ownership of feature delivery, contributing to architectural decisions and ensuring security and code best practices across our services. You'll also be expected to document and communicate clearly with teammates and stakeholders to ensure reliable and well understood solutions to support business objectives.
