Job summary

Jobgether, on behalf of a partner company, seeks a Director, Mechanical Engineering based in the Netherlands. You will lead mechanical design for AI infrastructure globally, owning liquid cooling and design standards while guiding cross-functional teams across regions.

You will recruit and mentor a high-performing mechanical engineering team, oversee external partners, and drive standards from concept through commissioning for hyperscale facilities.

Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline; Chartered or professional engineer status preferred.
• Significant experience in data centre or mission-critical mechanical engineering with senior technical leadership.
• Deep knowledge of data centre cooling systems, including chilled water, heat rejection, air-side design and cooling control philosophies.
• Experience developing engineering standards, reference designs, or basis‑of‑design documentation for hyperscale or large-scale data centres.
• Hands-on experience in high-density and liquid-cooled environments for AI/HPC workloads, including coolant distribution units.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the mechanical engineering design authority across the global portfolio from concept to handover.
• Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, specifications, and basis‑of‑design documentation.
• Lead reference design contributions for AI infrastructure facilities balancing performance and efficiency.
• Own liquid cooling architecture and facility water systems in coordination with technology teams.
• Provide technical guidance to active projects and resolve engineering challenges affecting delivery.
• Monitor AI hardware trends and translate innovations into updated standards.
• Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with established standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise safe, reliable and cost-effective designs.
• Standardise specifications for long-lead mechanical equipment with procurement.
• Champion safety by design and energy/water efficiency, supporting long-term operation.
• Incorporate lessons learned into standards and processes for future facilities.
• Oversee external design partners and mentor engineers while growing the team.
• Provide regular updates to Senior Director on progress, risks, and decisions.
