Job summary

Harnham Amsterdam is seeking a Data Engineer to own a core data environment and build the foundations for decision-making and growth. You will shape data architecture, governance and tooling, rather than simply maintaining an existing platform.

You will design scalable architectures across investment and portfolio data, define standards and data models, and implement automated reporting and governance for an international investment-focused context.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial Data Engineering experience with architecture design.
• Build integrations and automated data workflows.
• Establish data standards, models and quality processes.
• Familiarity with BI and dashboarding tools.
• Strong communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and manage complex data challenges.
• Experience in investment, financial services, venture capital or PE data is a plus.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a core data environment and build the foundations that will support investment decisions, reporting and long-term growth. You will have genuine scope to shape the data architecture, integrations, governance and tooling rather than simply maintaining an established platform.

The Role

As a Data Engineer, you will:

• Assess existing data practices, systems and workflows and translate findings into a practical data roadmap.
• Design and build scalable data architecture across investment, portfolio, market and stakeholder data.
• Define data models, taxonomies and standards across core data domains.
• Build integrations between business-critical platforms and improve the reliability of data flows.
• Create automated reporting and dashboards for internal decision-making and stakeholder reporting.
• Establish data quality processes, validation rules and monitoring.
• Develop data governance, classification and access controls.
• Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and drive adoption.
• Continuously improve the data environment as organisational requirements evolve.

Your Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial Data Engineering experience, particularly designing and building data architectures rather than solely maintaining existing environments.
• Strong coding skills and the ability to build integrations and automated data workflows.
• Experience establishing data standards, data models and data quality processes.
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence and dashboarding tools.
• Strong stakeholder communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and solve complex data challenges.
• Experience with investment, financial services, venture capital or private equity data would be beneficial but is not essential.
