Harnham is seeking a Head of Data Engineering in Amsterdam to lead a modern data platform, set engineering standards, and build a high-performing team. You will partner with senior stakeholders to deliver long-term business value and spearhead data, analytics, and AI initiatives in a hybrid environment.

You will shape the data engineering roadmap, mentor engineers, and ensure scalable, secure data solutions while driving delivery and governance across the function.

• Proven track record leading Data Engineering teams.

Responsabilidades

• Build, lead, and mentor a team of Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and Platform Engineers.
• Define and execute the data engineering roadmap in partnership with senior leadership.
• Drive delivery across platform development, data migrations, and modernisation initiatives.
• Establish engineering standards covering code quality, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and operational excellence.
• Overseeing architecture decisions to ensure scalable, reliable data solutions.
• Develop cloud-based data platforms that support analytics, reporting, and AI use case.
• Managing stakeholder relationships across technology, product, analytics, and business teams.
• Ensuring platform reliability through monitoring, incident management, and operational governance.
• Supporting hiring, team development, and succession planning within the engineering function.
• Championing best practices across Data Engineering, DataOps, and platform operations.

This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a business-critical data transformation programme at a leadership level. As Head of Data Engineering, you will lead the build-out of a modern data platform, shape engineering standards, and develop a high-performing team while working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver long-term business value.

They are a growing, data-driven organisation investing heavily in their data and AI capabilities. With a clear roadmap and strong executive sponsorship, they are modernising their data estate and building a scalable platform to support analytics, AI, and business decision-making.

The organisation is moving from strategy into execution and is seeking an experienced data engineering leader to define best practices, drive delivery, and build a team capable of supporting ambitious growth plans.

The Role

You will lead the Data Engineering function, combining people leadership, technical oversight, and strategic delivery.

Responsibilities include:

• Building, leading, and mentoring a team of Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and Platform Engineers
• Defining and executing the data engineering roadmap in partnership with senior leadership
• Driving delivery across platform development, data migrations, and modernisation initiatives
• Establishing engineering standards covering code quality, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and operational excellence

Your Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience leading Data Engineering teams and delivering large-scale data platform programmes
• Expertise with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modelling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and orchestration tools
• Experience building and scaling engineering teams while maintaining high technical standards
• Ability to lead architectural discussions and make informed technical decisions
• Experience implementing CI/CD, automation, testing, and DataOps best practices
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical delivery plans
• Experience delivering complex transformation programmes, including migrations, consolidations, or greenfield platform builds
• Familiarity with governance, security, and compliance requirements within enterprise environments
• A hands‑on leadership style with the ability to support technical teams when needed
