Job summary

Talland College invites applications for a Citizenship teacher role within our Healthcare Assistants track in Zaandam. You will deliver citizenship education to Vocational Education students at level 4 across pharmacy, doctor, and dental assistant programs, fostering critical thinking and engaged citizenship.

You will also mentor a class, be the first contact for students and parents, and provide career guidance using a coaching approach.

Qualifications

• A passion for citizenship and guiding students to become critical, engaged citizens.
• Preferably a teaching qualification; if not, willingness to obtain a PDG.
• Ability to inspire students and manage a wide range of opinions respectfully.
• Team player with flexibility and good sense of humor.

Responsibilities

• Deliver citizenship classes to pharmacy, doctor, and dental assistant programs (MBO level 4).
• Connect current social issues to students' lives; encourage critical thinking and substantiation of opinions.

The function
You deliver citizenship classes to students in the pharmacy assistant, doctor assistant and dental assistant programs. These are all vocational education programs at level 4.

You know how to connect current social issues to the lives of our students. You encourage them to think critically, substantiate their opinions, and be open to other perspectives. In doing so, you know how to create a safe learning environment where there is room for different opinions.

In addition to civic education classes, you provide mentoring for a class. You are the first point of contact for students and, if necessary, their parents/caregivers. You provide career guidance and conduct individual conversations with students about their study progress and personal development. A coaching approach is essential in this context.

Civic education within the VET sector is in full development. The government is imposing new qualification requirements on civic education teachers. At the moment, it is not yet clear exactly what these requirements will look like. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is willing to further professionalize themselves and, if necessary, to pursue additional training.

About the Assistants in the Healthcare Team
You will find yourself in a dedicated teaching team of approximately 20 teachers and instructors. Together, we deliver the training programs for pharmacy assistant, doctor assistant and dental assistant.

We have a deep commitment to our students and a keen eye for one another. We believe it is important that students feel seen and heard and that we guide them not only in their development as aspiring professionals but also in their personal development.

Job requirements

Your profile
You have a passion for citizenship and believe it is important to guide students in their development into critical and engaged citizens.

You preferably have a teaching qualification, for example in social studies. If you do not yet have a teaching qualification, you are willing to obtain it through a pedagogical-didactic certificate (PDG).

You know how to inspire students and can handle a wide range of opinions. You also know how to guide the conversation in a respectful way when it comes to sensitive social issues.

You are a team player, think in terms of possibilities and see opportunities for improvement and innovation. Flexibility and a good sense of humor come in handy.

we are offering you a 0.6 fte position as a teacher; initially, you will receive a one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent appointment;

For qualified teachers, we offer the possibility to be appointed as Core Teacher in the salary scale LC (€ 4,396,- up to a maximum of € 6,459,- for a full-time appointment). If you do not have an education qualification for the mbo, you will be classified as a teacher in the salary scale LB (€ 3,861,- up to a maximum of € 5,715,- for a full-time appointment). Furthermore, classification is based on knowledge, experience and education;
