Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking a (Senior) Automation Engineer to automate, improve, and modernise a complex infra environment in the Netherlands. You will build scalable automation, enhance reliability, and push Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, and automated service delivery.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years' experience in infrastructure management, automation, and DevOps.
• In-depth knowledge of Ansible, including designing complex configurations and roles.
• Strong experience with Linux and Red Hat, including configuration management, monitoring, and optimisation.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong analytical ability and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
• A proactive, hands-on working style with attention to detail, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure processes using Ansible.
• Design and apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC).
• Manage and optimise Linux and Red Hat environments, including configuration management, troubleshooting, and security.
• Build and optimise workflows and tooling to automate repetitive work and accelerate processes.
• Design and manage CI/CD pipelines that connect infrastructure management and software development.
• Use Git for version control, collaboration, and controlled changes.
• Apply DevOps best practices to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to design and implement solutions.
• Act as a sparring partner, mentor, and knowledge-sharer within the team.

We're recruiting for a (Senior) Automation Engineer to automate, improve, and modernise a complex infrastructure environment. Combining deep infrastructure knowledge with modern DevOps principles, you'll develop scalable automation solutions, increase environment reliability, and help the team work faster, more consistently, and more securely - playing a key role in the further professionalisation of Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, and automated service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure processes using Ansible
• Design and apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) for consistent, scalable, and manageable infrastructure
• Manage and optimise Linux and Red Hat environments, including configuration management, troubleshooting, and security

• Design and manage CI/CD pipelines that effectively connect infrastructure management and software development
• Use Git for version control, collaboration, and controlled changes

• Act as a technical sparring partner, mentor, and knowledge-sharer within the team

What You Will Ideally Bring

• Minimum 5–7 years' experience in infrastructure management, automation, and DevOps
• In-depth knowledge of Ansible, including designing complex configurations and roles
• Strong experience with Linux and Red Hat, including configuration management, monitoring, and optimisation
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, Git, and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong analytical ability and a practical, solutions-focused approach
• A proactive, hands-on working style with attention to detail, quality, and efficiency
• Good communication skills, able to explain technical topics clearly
• A collaborative mindset and enjoyment of knowledge-sharing
• Knowledge of/experience with SolarWinds (a plus)
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes (a plus)
• Experience with Red Hat OpenShift (a plus)
