Job description

Skip rate, hook, 3-sec view, 15-sec view, video completion rate, content concept. If none of these mean anything to you, you probably aren\'t a good fit.

This is an editing role first. You\'ll spend most of your week in the timeline, turning raw footage into short-form video that stops the scroll, moves the heart and converts the click, for one food brand whose customers are 90% Chinese-speaking Malaysian families.

But you won\'t edit blind. You\'ll be on set for our shoots, helping capture, framing shots, flagging what\'s missing before we wrap. An editor who was in the room cuts faster and cuts better. You know what you need, so you make sure it gets shot.

Then you look at the watch-time data and tell us what you got wrong.

Non-Negotiables

Read these first. If you can\'t tick all six, this isn\'t your role, and we\'d rather you find that out here than three rounds in.

You edit at a level you\'re proud of. Pacing, sound design, captions, transitions. Platform-native, not template-native.

You show up on set. You don\'t need to be a cinematographer, but you must be comfortable on a shoot: handling a camera, checking framing and audio, calling for the shot you know you\'ll need in the edit.

You understand Chinese. Mandarin comprehension is mandatory. You\'ll read customer comments, follow talent on set, and write CN captions that sound like a person wrote them, not Google Translate. Cantonese and reading/writing Chinese are strong pluses.

You have a portfolio of 8+ short-form videos you personally edited. Vertical. Platform-native. With metrics if you have them. Videos you also shot are a bonus, not a requirement.

You measure. You can point at a video and tell us why it worked or died: retention curve, hook timing, comment sentiment, something real. "It felt right" is not an answer.

You take direct critique as fuel. We will tell you a cut isn\'t good enough yet. If that deflates you rather than energises you, you\'ll be miserable here.

Areas of Responsibility
1. Video Editing & Storytelling | 55%

Edit min 8 to 12 short-form videos per week across LBF + Auntie Chia (Reels, Shorts, TikTok)

Turn raw footage into stories that land with caregivers, families and Chinese-Malaysian food lovers

Land the hook inside the first 1.5 seconds, and prove it with retention data

Own pacing, sound design, captions, transitions and effects that feel native to each platform

Maintain bilingual EN/CN caption and copy consistency

Own the final cut. Defend your choices. Change them when the data disagrees.

Join shoot days as the editor in the room. You know the cut, so you protect it during capture

Assist with camera, lighting, audio and set-up; shoot B-roll, product and kitchen coverage yourself

Call for missing shots, alternate angles, safety takes and pickups before we wrap

Support the team directing on-camera talent (occasionally appearing on camera yourself)

Keep batch shoot days efficient: multiple videos per session, organised footage from day one

3. Content Strategy & AI-Powered Workflow | 20%

Reverse-engineer winning videos, ours and competitors', into repeatable edit formulas

Propose new hook structures, formats, edit styles and series. Bring hypotheses, not vibes

Use AI to compress post-production time without compromising craft

Test and adopt new tools as they emerge, and document what works for the team

Build prompt libraries, asset templates and edit presets that scale our output

Push back when a concept won\'t cut well, and bring a better one

4. Production Standards & Coordination | 5%

Work with our designer on overlays, thumbnails and visual identity

Bring editing in-house as your workflow matures, reducing reliance on external editors

Maintain asset libraries, version control and clean handoffs

Brief and review freelance editors when we need extra volume

Requirements

Multimedia background preferred. Diploma or degree in multimedia, film, digital media, or equivalent hands-on experience

MUST understand Chinese (90% of our customers are Chinese-speaking)

Portfolio required. 8+ short-form videos you personally edited, with platform metrics if available

Strong command of at least one professional NLE (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut or CapCut Pro). Working knowledge of motion graphics tools (After Effects or equivalent) is a plus

Working knowledge of camera, lighting, framing and audio for short-form vertical, enough to shoot competently on set

Comfortable being on shoot days and occasionally appearing on camera

Native-level intuition for Reels / TikTok / Shorts pacing, hook structure and platform behaviour

Comfort with feedback loops, including direct, honest critique on your work

Ownership mindset: you ship, you measure, you improve

Hybrid remote ( 4 days in office, 1 day WFH)

EPF, SOCSO, EIS Contribution

Annual Increment

Performance bonus tied to content impact (not seat-time)

Full access to AI tool stack (we pay for licenses)

Production gear access (camera, lighting, audio, gimbal)

You\’ll Thrive Here If You:

Live in the timeline, but want to be in the room when it\'s shot, not handed a folder

Prefer autonomy over hand-holding. We give context, you decide the cut

Take honest feedback as fuel, not as a personal attack

Get energised when you\'re told "this isn\'t good enough yet", not deflated

Move fast without spiralling when things go sideways

Care about outcomes more than process

Treat content as craft + science: feel and data
