Stokoan is seeking a freelance Video Editor / Videographer in Malaysia to handle social media content across multiple industries. The role starts with editing and may involve shoots later as you grow, with potential to convert to full-time in the future.
You’ll work in batches to meet deadlines, with flexible hours and opportunities to take on more videos if you have more availability. Some Singapore shoots may be required with travel support.
We’re looking for a freelance Video Editor / Videographer to join us on a long-term basis.
You’ll be working on social media content across a pretty wide range of industries, including beauty, gaming, F&B, lifestyle, healthcare, finance, e-commerce, personal branding and more. There will also be opportunities to work on our own brands and new projects as we grow.
For the first 2 months, you’ll mainly focus on editing. After that, if you’re interested in videography, we can slowly get you involved in shoots as well.
We’re looking for someone we can work with for the long run, so there’s definitely room for the role, responsibilities and pay to grow over time. There may also be an opportunity to convert to a full-time position in the future.
The arrangement is quite flexible.
We’ll usually assign you a batch of videos together with their deadlines. How you choose to manage your workload is up to you.
If you prefer editing one video a day, that’s fine. If you prefer clearing several videos in one sitting, that’s fine too.
As long as the work is completed within the agreed timeline and the quality is there, we’re not particular about when or how many hours you spend working on it.
If you have more availability and want to take on more videos, there will usually be opportunities to do so too.
Videos will generally be social media content of around 90 seconds or less, across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and other short-form formats.
We also provide access to resources such as Envato when needed.
You should:
We especially like people who are naturally on social media a lot, notice trends, save references, try new CapCut features and are curious about how other creators edit their content.
We don’t want someone who learns one editing style and uses it forever. Different brands need different styles, and we want someone who enjoys figuring that out.
Chinese-speaking is a plus, but not required.
No specific qualifications are required. Students, fresh graduates and self-taught editors are welcome to apply.
Having your own stable and fast computer/laptop for editing is also preferred.
Previous experience is preferred, so please send us your portfolio or links to videos you’ve personally edited before.
A strong portfolio is a plus, but we’re also open to people who may not have a huge portfolio yet if we see potential in their work.
At the beginning, we’ll naturally provide more direction and feedback so you can understand our standards and the different brands you’re working with.
Over time, we hope you’ll become increasingly independent, to the point where you can receive the footage and brief, understand what we’re looking for, and produce something that’s good to go.
We also love when our editors contribute creatively. If you see a trend, editing style, content format or idea that you think would work for one of our brands, tell us!
You do not need to be an experienced videographer to apply.
For the first 2 months, the role will primarily involve editing. After that, we can slowly explore videography depending on your interests and abilities.
Shooting equipment will be provided by us.
There may occasionally be shoots in Singapore, which is why applicants based in JB are preferred, although we are open to applicants from anywhere in Malaysia.
For Singapore shoots, we will cover the relevant travel costs and meals, with an additional RM100 shoot allowance.
There may also be more travel and shooting opportunities in the future as we take on different projects.
The starting rate is RM30 per approved video, with payment made at the end of each week based on the number of approved videos completed.
We don’t expect the starting rate to remain your rate forever.
As your skills, quality, consistency and creative ability improve, we’re happy to increase your rate accordingly. We don’t have a rigid “you must work X months before you can get an increment” system. If your work improves and you’re able to take on more independently, we’ll review accordingly.
We prioritise our team and believe people should be paid according to the value and skills they bring.
For someone who works well with us, there is plenty of room to grow into bigger projects, videography, more responsibility and potentially a full-time role in the future.
This role would probably suit you if you:
We’re less concerned about how many years of experience you have and more interested in whether you have the right eye, attitude and potential.
