Job summary

Uchida MK Sdn Bhd in Shah Alam is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of metal product designs from concept through to mass production. You will ensure compliance with IMS standards and collaborate with multiple departments to optimize design, production, and testing processes.

The role requires 3–5 years of design experience, proficiency in AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS, and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical product design, especially in metal products.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and simulation capabilities.
• Understanding of ISO Integrated Management System (IMS).

Responsibilities

• Support product development strategies from concept to launch.
• Create design specifications, drawings, and prototypes meeting IMS standards.
• Ensure IMS is integrated within departmental processes and address noncompliance.
• Coordinate with Procurement to verify material specifications.
• Collaborate with Production, QA, Engineering, Sales, and Planning to transition from prototype to mass production.
• Provide technical support and resolve design/manufacturing issues to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Implement testing procedures, analyze results, and apply design modifications for durability and safety.
• Communicate IMS requirements to stakeholders.
• Identify and assess environmental aspects, OH&S risks, and implement controls.
• Attend internal audits and training programs.

Job description

Support the implementation of product development strategies and lifecycle, from conceptualization, design, production to product launching.

Key responsibilities:

Ensure the creation of design specifications, technical drawings and prototypes meet the industry and IMS standards; customers and other relevant stakeholders' requirement

Support implementation and integration of IMS within departmental processes, and address any issues of incompliance

Liaise with Procurement department to ensure that materials supplied meet all the product specification and requirements

Collaborate with Production, QA, Engineering, Sales and Production Planning departments to ensure smooth transition from prototype to mass production

Provide technical support to relevant departments, resolve any design and manufacturing issues and optimize processes to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness

Implement rigorous testing procedures, analyze results and implement necessary design modifications to ensure product durability, functionality and safety

Communicate IMS requirements i.e. Policy, Objectives, etc. to relevant stakeholders/parties

Ensure departmental risks & opportunities, environmental aspects & impacts and OH&S hazards & risks are identified and assessed, with appropriate controls implemented

Attend to internal audits and meetings, participate in training programs provided.

Requirements:

Posses a Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

3-5 years’ experience in products technical design especially in metal products.

Proficiency in AUTOCAD and SOLIDWORKS software

Strong leadership with good communication and interpersonal skills

Strong analytical and simulation capabilities.

Understanding of ISO Integrated Management System (IMS)
