Job summary

GeoSoftware Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a Systems Administrator for its global IT Team in Kuala Lumpur. You will build, secure, and maintain Linux server estates, HPC clusters, and virtualization platforms across on‑premises and cloud environments.

You will automate tasks, manage access and security controls, and support complex environment, licensing, and connectivity issues while growing your responsibilities in infrastructure, cloud, and security domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years in systems administration or IT infrastructure support.
• Hands-on Linux server management, scripting, virtualization, and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain Linux server estate across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Manage virtualization platforms, provision VMs and workstations for development, test and demo use.
• Build standardized development, staging and production environments for consistency.
• Set up network infra including LAN, Wi‑Fi, file and storage servers at GeoSoftware offices.
• Administer Linux HPC clusters, schedulers and shared storage for compute workloads.
• Maintain license server infra on Linux/Windows and resolve licensing issues.
• Manage identities and access controls for systems, tooling, code repos, and cloud envs.
• Apply security controls across estate, including firewalls, VPNs, and hardening baselines.
• Monitor performance, capacity, availability and vulnerabilities; apply patches per change control.
• Test backup, restore and disaster recovery regularly; perform incident escalation as needed.
• Automate recurring admin tasks via scripting and configuration management tools.
• Collaborate with developers, QA, IT, and vendors to align infra with business needs.

Job Summary

Are you at home on the Linux command line and do you take pride in infrastructure that simply works? Then GeoSoftware, a global leader in geoseismic reservoir characterization solutions, is looking for you to join our global IT Team as our Systems Administrator.

In this role you will be reporting to the Global Head of IT of GeoSoftware and be part of the global IT Team. You will be building, securing, and maintaining the server, storage, network, and workstation infrastructure that GeoSoftware depends on, from Linux servers, HPC compute clusters, and virtualization platforms, to the development, test, training, and demonstration environments used across our offices.

Your focus will be on the day-to-day administration and continuous improvement of GeoSoftware's Linux estate, including provisioning and standardizing environments, managing access and security controls, and keeping systems patched, monitored, and backed up. Additionally, you will act as an escalation point for colleagues and, where required, for customers facing complex environment, licensing, or connectivity issues.

You bring a hands-on, methodical, and security-conscious approach to the organization, together with the instinct to automate work rather than repeat it. A continuous training path in the fields of infrastructure, cloud, and security as well as opportunities to grow and expand your responsibilities are part of this function.

Duties and Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain GeoSoftware's Linux server estate, with Windows servers where required, across on-premises and cloud environments.

Deploy and manage virtualization platforms, and provision, standardize, and re-image virtual machines and workstations for development, test, training, and demonstration use.

Build and maintain standardized development, staging, and production environments so that software behaves consistently wherever it runs.

Set up and maintain site ICT infrastructure for GeoSoftware offices, including LAN, Wi‑Fi, workstations, laptops, and file and storage servers.

Administer Linux HPC clusters, their job schedulers, and the shared storage that supports GeoSoftware and customer compute workloads.

Maintain license server infrastructure on Linux and Windows, and resolve licensing and entitlement issues.

Manage identities, access controls, and permissions for systems, development tooling, code repositories, and cloud environments.

Apply and maintain security controls across the estate, including firewalls, VPN, endpoint protection, hardening baselines, and certificate management.

Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and vulnerabilities, and apply patches and updates following agreed change procedures.

Operate and regularly test backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.

Automate recurring administration work through scripting and configuration management tooling.

Act as escalation point for developers, QA, and colleagues on environment, hardware, access, and connectivity issues, and support customers with complex system, cluster, and third‑party integration questions.

Handle incidents, service requests, and problems within agreed service levels, and maintain hardware, software, and license asset inventories.

Create and maintain documentation for the build, configuration, and troubleshooting of GeoSoftware environments.

Work with the IT, R&D, QA, and regional teams, and with external vendors, to align infrastructure with business needs.

Essential skills:

Strong Linux server administration skills on RHEL and Ubuntu, covering installation, hardening, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python, with PowerShell for Windows environments.

Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing, and firewalls.

Experience with directory services and identity management (LDAP, Active Directory, Entra ID).

Experience with virtualization and hypervisor platforms such as Proxmox, and with system imaging and provisioning.

Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their core compute, storage, and identity services.

Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Familiarity with configuration management and infrastructure‑as‑code tooling such as Ansible or Terraform.

Working knowledge of Linux HPC clusters, shared storage, and job schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, or LSF.

Experience with backup and recovery tooling, procedures, and restore testing.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or a demonstrated equivalent knowledge through education and professional experience.

3+ years of experience in systems administration or IT infrastructure support.

Hands‑on experience with Linux server management, scripting, virtualization, and cloud platforms.

Excellent English skills, both written and spoken.

Residing within or near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Advantageous:

Certifications in cloud, networking, or security, for example AWS or Azure associate level, CompTIA Network+ or Security+.

Familiarity with IT service management practices such as ITIL.

Experience supporting HPC, technical, or scientific computing environments.

Willingness to take part in an on‑call rotation and to support colleagues and customers across time zones.

Travel & Work Location

This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of three days per week on‑site at our Kuala Lumpur office. Occasional travel to GeoSoftware offices and customer sites might be required.
