Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking an experienced System Engineer (Linux / Web Server) to manage our Linux servers, websites, backend infrastructure, databases, and online services. The role requires at least 4 years of relevant Linux/system administration experience and understanding of frontend, backend, API, and database layers.

You will ensure our online services are stable, secure, fast, and available while monitoring resources, traffic, and performance across the stack.

Key Responsibilities
1. Linux Server & System Administration

• Manage and maintain Linux production servers.

• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux servers and system services.

• Monitor CPU, RAM, disk space, bandwidth, network connections, and overall server health.

• Manage Linux users, permissions, processes, services, scheduled jobs, and system configurations.

• Perform system updates, patches, maintenance, and security hardening.

• Monitor server uptime and resolve system-related issues.

2. Website & Web Server Management

• Maintain the server environment supporting company websites and online platforms.

• Manage and troubleshoot web servers such as Nginx or Apache.

• Monitor website availability, response time, server errors, and system performance.

• Investigate website downtime, slow response, connection errors, and server-related problems.

• Analyse server and application logs to identify technical issues.

• Support website deployment and production environment maintenance.

3. Backend, Database & API Infrastructure

• Understand the relationship between frontend, backend, API, database, and Linux server infrastructure.

• Support backend applications running on Linux servers.

• Work with developers to troubleshoot backend and application-related issues.

• Monitor database connectivity and performance.

• Investigate issues involving APIs, application services, databases, and server resources.

• Assist with deployment and configuration of backend services.

4. User & Website Traffic Monitoring

• Monitor website traffic and server workload.

• Track number of users, active/concurrent users, requests, traffic volume, and server load.

• Monitor traffic during normal and peak periods.

• Identify unusual increases in traffic or server resource consumption.

• Analyse whether existing infrastructure can support current and future user volumes.

• Recommend infrastructure improvements when traffic or user numbers increase.

5. Server Performance & Capacity

• Monitor CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth, and network utilisation.

• Identify server bottlenecks and performance issues.

• Analyse the cause of slow website or application performance.

• Conduct basic capacity planning based on traffic and user growth.

• Recommend server upgrades, additional resources, scaling, or infrastructure changes when required.

• Work with development teams to improve overall system performance.

6. Security, Backup & Reliability

• Maintain Linux server security and access controls.

• Monitor system logs and suspicious activities.

• Manage SSL certificates, firewall rules, and basic server security configurations.

• Ensure regular backups are performed and available when required.

• Assist with disaster recovery and system restoration.

• Maintain high availability and reliability of production services.

7. Troubleshooting & Technical Support

• Respond to server, website, and infrastructure incidents.

• Troubleshoot issues across the frontend backend API database server environment.

• Identify root causes rather than only resolving immediate symptoms.

• Coordinate with developers and other technical teams to resolve complex issues.

• Document system configurations, incidents, troubleshooting steps, and solutions.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience in System Engineering, Linux Administration, Server Administration, IT Infrastructure, or a similar role.

• Strong practical experience with Linux server administration.

• Experience managing servers in a production environment.

• Good knowledge of Nginx / Apache and web server configuration.

• Good understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP, ports, firewalls, and networking fundamentals.

• Experience with server monitoring and performance troubleshooting.

• Understanding of website architecture and the relationship between frontend, backend, API, database, and server infrastructure.

• Experience analysing Linux and application logs.

• Experience monitoring website traffic, server load, and system resources.

• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Able to work independently and take ownership of production infrastructure.

• Good communication skills and ability to work with developers and technical teams.

Education
