Job summary

Joshua Rayan Communications in Malaysia seeks a Sustainability Consultant & Writer to join full-time, semi-remote. You will lead ESG assessments, draft reports, and develop climate disclosures for public-listed clients.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years in ESG consulting, strong English writing, and familiarity with Bursa Malaysia, GRI, IFRS S1/S2, and related frameworks. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and support governance and risk advisory.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in ESG consulting or related fields.
• Strong understanding of sustainability reporting standards such as Bursa Malaysia NSRF, GRI, IFRS S1/S2, ISSB, TCFD, SASB.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English with strong writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to synthesize complex information into strategic, business-oriented narratives.
• Experience in developing GHG inventory and carbon accounting is an advantage.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Job description

JRC is a leading Malaysia based ESG guidance and advisory firm who supports public listed companies, in developing sustainability strategies, climate risk assessments, ESG KPIs and targets, risks assessment and framework development as well as development of policies, action plans and comprehensive sustainability reporting. As a member of the IFRS Sustainability Alliance and an IFRS-certified training partner for Integrated Reporting, JRC is also at the forefront of supporting Malaysian companies in implementing IFRS S1 and S2 sustainability and climate related risks and opportunities disclosures as well as the development of award-winning integrated reports.

We are looking for a self-motivated, competent and knowledgeable Sustainability Consultant & Writer to join our team on a full-time, remote basis.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sustainability, corporate reporting, climate-related disclosures, and strategic ESG advisory work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ESG / sustainability gap assessments, benchmarking exercises, and materiality assessments.
• Develop ESG data collection templates in aligned with Bursa Malaysia and NSRF requirements, GRI Standards, FTSE4Good, SASB, TCFD, ISSB (IFRS S1 & S2), and other relevant frameworks.
• Review, analyse, and interpret ESG data submissions, including environmental, social, governance, and climate-related disclosures, GHG emissions calculations, sustainability metrics, and risk-related information.
• Prepare and draft sustainability reports, integrated reports, ESG policies, climate-related disclosures, and implementation roadmaps.
• Present the ESG findings, strategies, roadmaps and policies and reports drafted to the Board and Management of public listed companies.
• Facilitate workshops, stakeholder engagements, interviews, and sustainability-related training sessions.
• Conduct sustainability and regulatory research, including developments related to NSRF, IFRS S1 & S2, Bursa Malaysia requirements, climate governance, and emerging ESG trends.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams, designers, and clients to ensure quality, consistency, and timely delivery of projects.
• Support broader JRC organisational initiatives including annual reports, integrated reports, ESG questionnaires, presentations, and strategic communications.
• Assist in governance, risk, compliance, human rights, supply chain, anti-corruption, and climate-related advisory projects where relevant.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Public Policy, Corporate Reporting, Finance, Business, or related disciplines. However, applicants with other professional qualifications who have a strong understanding of ESG and sustainability are encouraged to apply.
• 2–5 years of experience in ESG consulting, sustainability reporting, corporate sustainability, climate advisory, or related fields
• Strong understanding of sustainability reporting standards and frameworks such as: Bursa Malaysia Sustainability Reporting Guide, NSRF, GRI Standards, IFRS S1 & S2 / ISSB, TCFD, SASB, FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia, SBTi, CDP, MSCI, UNSDGs and related frameworks
• Excellent command of written and spoken English with strong professional writing, editing, analytical, and presentation skills
• Strong ability to synthesise complex information into strategic and business-oriented narratives Experience in developing GHG inventory and carbon accounting, including proficiency in emissions calculations, would be an advantage
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in a fast-paced consulting environment
• Highly self-driven, proactive, and willing to continuously learn and adapt to evolving ESG developments
• Knowledge of Integrated Reporting principles and framework, MMLR, ACE LR, MCCG 2021, ISO 19011:2018, and environmental sciences would be an advantage
