Our client in the Battery industry is currently seeking a highly skilled Supplier Quality Engineer to be based at Shah Alam.
In this role, you won't just inspect parts; you will serve as the technical authority driving quality, reliability, and precision across our global supply base. You will bridge the gap between engineering vision and real-world manufacturing, collaborating directly with world-class component suppliers to ensure zero-defect standards from prototype to mass production.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate potential and existing suppliers through on-site audits, process evaluations, and technical assessments to ensure compliance with organization and industry standards.
- Monitor key supplier metrics (DPPM, OTD) and manage supplier scorecards to drive improvements in product quality and reduce cost of poor quality.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between suppliers, engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing to ensure quality standards are met from design to production.
- Lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new components, verifying supplier process readiness and approving initial samples.
- Leading/participating in problem analysis and resolution (Requires understanding and application of problem-solving techniques, such as 8D, A3, etc.); Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues.
- Assess and enhance supplier core competencies and manufacturing processes
- Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of supplier quality issues
- Promote the use of preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years in overall quality engineering.
- 3+ years in electronic component manufacturing (Power Electronics, Telecom, Semiconductors, PCBs, or Electro-Mechanical assemblies).
- Direct experience with Lithium technology, Battery Management Systems (BMS), or Energy Management Systems is a major advantage.
- Mastery of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, GD&T, and structured problem-solving (8D, A3).
- Trained in ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 auditing (or clear capacity to obtain certification), with familiarity in standards like IPC-610/IPC-620.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin to communicate seamlessly with international engineering teams and regional suppliers.
- Willingness and agility to travel up to 20%–50% (domestic and international) for on-site audits and critical issue resolution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior hands-on experience with SAP and Power BI.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Assembly (DfA), and Testability (DfT).
