Job summary

Orkim Ship Management Sdn Bhd is seeking a Superintendent, Marine Operations to oversee all aspects of marine operations for our fleet. You will ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, maintain vessel safety and performance standards, and provide strategic oversight of operational activities.

The role requires extensive experience at sea, leadership in shipping operations, and the ability to manage safety, cargo, and port operations across the fleet.

Qualifications

  • Holder of COC Class 2 Chief Officer FG or equivalent.
  • Served as Chief Officer onboard a Chemical and Oil Tanker for at least 2 years.
  • Experience as Operations Superintendent or similar role.
  • Preferably a Master Mariner.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day vessel operations and ensure navigational safety.
  • Maintain safety and regulatory compliance and oversee cargo/port operations.
  • Manage crew performance, training, and recruitment for junior officers.
  • Coordinate audits of security, cargo, and mooring.
  • Provide strategic oversight of operational activities across the fleet.
  • Lead risk management and incident reporting.

About the role

We are seeking a Superintendent, Marine Operations to join our team that plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing all aspects of marine operations for our fleet. The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations, maintaining vessel safety and performance standards, and providing strategic oversight of operational activities. This role is integral to the success of our company and directly impacts the quality of service we deliver to our clients.

Key responsibilities
Shipping Operations
  • Responsible in the day-to-day operations of the vessel including navigational safety, cargo, ballast, tank cleaning and inspections
  • Implements procedures to improve quality, productivity and efficiency
  • Ensures shipments are delivered in a timely manner
  • Monitors reports to ensure ships meet requirements and possess the relevant documentation
  • Plan and execute cargo/port operations
Cargo / Port Operations
  • Ensure the Master executes the voyage safely and effectively as per Charterer's voyage instructions
  • Ensure cargo surveyors are appointed before the vessel's arrival
  • Ensure Charterer's Letter of Indemnity is in place in the event of change of discharge port, Change of cargo quantity, discharge cargo without presentation of original Bills of Lading
  • Ensure cargo discharge/release order is submitted to the vessel prior to arrival at the discharge port
  • Initiate Incident Report (IIR) on cargo-related incident
  • Manage and resolve discrepancies in cargo/port operations with advice from legal counsels and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs
  • Monitor cargo operations for a fleet of vessels in port to minimise their turnaround time
Safety
  • Maintaining safety standards and procedures is a key part of the job and also requires acting as a member of an Emergency Response Team
Security
  • The assistant to the Company Security Officer
  • Responsible for the fleet's security-related matters
Audits
  • To arrange and manage audits and inspections on security, cargo and mooring.
Crew Management
  • Conduct interviews and make recommendations on new hires for junior officers and Pumpman
Managing People
  • Assist Manager in preparing employee performance appraisal reports on an on-going basis
  • Manage the performance and development process for all direct reports, including providing coaching and development opportunities that allow each individual's potential to be maximised and used effectively
What we're looking for

Experience:

  • Proven work experience as Operations Superintendent or similar role
