Job summary

Vermi Industries Sdn Bhd in Kulai, Johor, Malaysia seeks an experienced and JKKP-certified Steam Engineer to oversee the safe, efficient and compliant operation of a wood-fired boiler system. You will manage boiler operation, maintenance, logging, and regulatory compliance, supervising boiler-house staff.

Requirements include a valid Steam Engineer Certificate of Competency recognised by JKKP/DOSH Malaysia and at least three years of relevant experience, preferably with wood/biomass boilers.

Qualifications

• Possess a valid Steam Engineer Certificate of Competency recognised by JKKP/DOSH Malaysia.
• The certificate grade must be appropriate for operating and supervising the company's boiler installation.
• Minimum three years of relevant working experience in steam-boiler operation, preferably involving wood-fired or biomass-fired boilers.
• Sound knowledge of boiler operation, combustion control, steam distribution, water treatment and preventive maintenance.
• Familiar with JKKP/DOSH statutory inspections, boiler certification, logbook maintenance and regulatory compliance.
• Able to diagnose boiler faults and respond effectively to emergencies or equipment breakdowns.
• Good leadership skills and ability to supervise Boilermen and boiler-house personnel.
• Physically fit and able to work in a boiler-house environment.
• Possess good communication, record-keeping and problem-solving skills.
• Willing to work on shifts, weekends, public holidays, overtime or on-call when required.

Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the company's wood-fired steam boiler system.
• Operate and supervise the boiler to ensure a stable steam supply for production operations.
• Monitor boiler pressure, temperature, water level, combustion condition, fuel consumption and steam output.
• Control wood-fuel feeding and combustion efficiency while minimising smoke, ash and fuel wastage.
• Conduct routine inspections of boilers, pumps, valves, pipelines, safety devices, water-treatment systems and related equipment.
• Ensure boiler operations comply with all applicable JKKP/DOSH requirements, statutory regulations and approved operating procedures.
• Maintain complete and accurate boiler logbooks, inspection records, maintenance records and statutory documents.
• Coordinate scheduled preventive maintenance, repairs, boiler shutdowns and annual inspections.
• Liaise with JKKP/DOSH officers, authorised inspectors, contractors and service providers regarding inspection and certification matters.
• Carry out boiler water testing and coordinate chemical treatment to prevent scaling and corrosion.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and JKKP-certified Steam Engineer to oversee the safe, efficient and compliant operation of our +/-600 sq. ft. wood-fired boiler system. The successful candidate will be responsible for steam generation, boiler maintenance, statutory compliance, operational records and supervision of boiler-house personnel.

Key responsibilities
