Job summary
Segi Fresh seeks a senior software leader to build and guide a modern development practice, leveraging AI-assisted development, automation, and cloud-native architectures to accelerate software delivery for retail operations.
You will architect scalable internal platforms, modernize legacy systems, and establish robust CI/CD and data integration across enterprise apps, with a focus on Power BI analytics and secure coding practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- Minimum 6 years of hands-on software development experience.
- At least 2–3 years in technical leadership or engineering management.
- Proven experience architecting and deploying software into production.
- Experience in legacy modernization, migration, or system integration is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Build, mentor, and lead an in-house software development team focused on modern engineering practices and AI-assisted development.
- Establish coding standards, AI-assisted development guidelines, code review practices, testing standards, and security controls.
- Drive the adoption of AI coding assistants and automated development tools to improve productivity and delivery speed.
- Develop team capabilities through coaching, knowledge sharing, and continuous technical improvement.
- Design scalable, modular, secure, and maintainable software architectures aligned with business needs.
- Modernize legacy applications and business logic into secure, scalable solutions.
- Develop and manage RESTful APIs and integrations with POS, WMS, ERP, and CRM.
- Establish secure coding practices, RBAC, API governance, and integration standards.
- Lead technology decisions relating to architecture, frameworks, platforms, and tools.
- Design, build, and maintain automated data workflows using n8n and ETL platforms.
- Develop event-driven workflows, CDC, and scheduled data synchronization.
- Integrate data from stores, distribution centers, and ERP into centralized data platforms.

In this role, you will build and lead a modern software development practice, leveraging AI-assisted development ("vibe coding"), automation, modern architecture, and cloud-ready technologies to accelerate software delivery. You will be responsible for architecting scalable internal platforms, developing automated data pipelines, modernizing legacy databases and applications, and establishing robust CI/CD practices to support high-speed retail operations.

Enable automated data feeds for Microsoft Power BI and other analytics platforms.
Implement resilient error handling, automated retries, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms for critical integration workflows.
Establish standardized CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, build processes, and application deployments across development, staging, and production environments.
Implement Git-based branching, source control, automated testing, and deployment practices.
Drive containerization using Docker and modern deployment practices.
Lead database modernization initiatives, including schema design, query optimization, data cleansing, migration, backup, replication, and performance tuning.
Support cloud readiness and migration initiatives across AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Partner with the GM of IT, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders to assess technical feasibility, delivery timelines, risks, and resource requirements.
Translate business requirements from Store Operations, Distribution Centres, Commercial, and other functions into technical solutions and actionable development tasks.
Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle and ensure solutions meet business, security, performance, and scalability requirements.
Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of critical software defects and technical issues.
Identify and manage technical debt while balancing long-term architecture with business delivery requirements.
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI API, Windsurf, or v0.
Experience with AI-assisted code generation, rapid prototyping, prompt engineering, automated refactoring, testing, and AI-assisted code security review.
Backend: Node.js/TypeScript, Python (FastAPI/Django), Go, or modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel/Symfony.
Frontend: React, Next.js, Vue.js, Tailwind CSS, or comparable modern frameworks.
API architecture: RESTful APIs, Webhooks, GraphQL, Microservices, and Message Queues.
Experience with n8n, Zapier, Make, Airflow, or similar workflow orchestration/ETL platforms.
Knowledge of event-driven workflows, scheduled data synchronization, CDC, and API connectors.
Experience integrating enterprise data with Microsoft Power BI or modern data warehouse environments.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or comparable modern databases.
Strong knowledge of database architecture, schema design, indexing, query optimization, data migration, backup, and replication.
Strong understanding of Git, GitHub/GitLab branching workflows, and source control practices.
Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
Experience with Docker, Nginx/Traefik, and containerized application deployment.
Understanding of Infrastructure as Code and cloud migration fundamentals across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Familiarity with Point-of-Sale (POS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), SAP/ERP, inventory management, retail transaction flows, and member/loyalty systems.
Retail, FMCG, grocery, supply chain, distribution centre, or multi-site operational experience will be a strong advantage.
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Minimum 6 years of hands-on software development experience.
At least 2–3 years of experience in a technical leadership, Lead Developer, Technical Lead, or Engineering Manager role.
Proven experience in architecting, developing, and deploying software solutions into production environments.
Experience in legacy system modernization, application migration, or system integration is an advantage.
Strong hands-on experience in software development, architecture, databases, APIs, automation, and DevOps.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of day-to-day software development is highly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to build automated data workflows and manage high-volume transactional databases.
