WIDAD BUILDERS SDN. BHD. is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor/Cost Controller to manage project costs, budgets and commercial risks across the lifecycle.
You will prepare cost forecasts, cash-flow projections and inputs for feasibility studies, while tracking expenditures from inception to completion. The role requires a Quantity Surveying degree and at least 5 years in construction, with experience from developers, QS consultancies or contractors.
This role involves managing project costs, budgets, and commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle. You will prepare cost forecasts, cash-flow projections, and feasibility study inputs, while monitoring costs from inception to completion and highlighting potential overruns, delays, and contractual risks.
Key responsibilities
Report directly to management on project costs, progress, timelines and commercial risks
Prepare project budgets, cost forecasts, cash-outflow projections and cost input for feasibility studies
Follow up on consultant QS submissions including cost plans, BQs, tender documents, claims, variation order and final account
Review and analyse BQs and cost plans and prepare basic measurements or cost estimates when required
Participate in tender exercises, evaluation pricing and advice management on contractor appointments
Conduct site inspections and joint valuations to verify actual progress against claims and work programmes
Monitor project costs from inception to completion and highlight potential overruns, delays and contractual risks
Review drawings and specifications for cost implications and value-engineering opportunities, working with consultants to evaluate suitable alternatives
Track prevailing material prices, labour rates, contractor pricing and current construction market issues
Prepare letters of award, award recommendation memoranda and tender committee meeting minutes for management's approval
About you
Degree in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent qualification
At least 5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry
Experience with a property developer, QS consultancy or contractor; developer-side experience is an advantage
Familiar with pre-contract and post-contract administration, tendering, claims, variation orders and final accounts
Strong knowledge of construction costs, materials, methods and current market pricing
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, BQs and project programs
Analytical, commercially aware, independent and attentive to detail
Willing to conduct regular site visits and report directly to management
