Job summary

Watlow is seeking a Senior/Engineer – Supplier Quality in Malaysia to drive supplier evaluations, audits, and performance improvements across a global supply base. You will ensure Watlow change control compliance and lead corrective actions.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in supplier quality or related roles, and are fluent in English with Mandarin beneficial. Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally is expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in an engineering, manufacturing, or applicable technical discipline.
• Minimum five years in engineering/design or manufacturing/process role
• Minimum five years in Supplier Quality/Quality Assurance or Supply Chain
• Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally
• Auditing experience – quality system elements and PPAP audits
• English fluency; Mandarin proficiency preferred/required
• Expertise in 8D, PPAP, APQP, Control Plans and other quality tools
• Root-cause corrective action expertise
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:20015, ITAR16949
• Ability to lead and communicate across supplier organizations
• Represent supplier quality during customer audits
• Independent work with remote supervision

Job description

Overview of Role:

The Senior or Engineer – Supplier Quality, will be responsible for ensuring acceptable performance of the supply base through effective linkage, active involvement, evaluation, and continuous performance management of our global suppliers.

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Support NPD, Global Footprint, and Supply Chain projects to evaluate/audit new Watlow suppliers

• Lead supplier evaluation/audits of current Watlow suppliers

• Deploy Watlow requirements to suppliers, identify gaps, and work with suppliers to develop the capability to meet expectations

• Lead supplier readiness/improvement work with new suppliers (pre-product launch) and existing suppliers (as needed)

• Utilize supplier performance data and sourcing strategies to target, define approach, and continuously improve supplier performance

• Ensure suppliers understand and apply Watlow’s change control requirements through annual training and auditing supplier’s conformance to the requirement

• Lead major/escalated supplier corrective action activity, ensuring thorough 8D has been defined and executed by supplier and Watlow has also taken appropriate action

• Suppliers’ development from quality driven systematically to meet Watlow expectations.

Qualifications:

• B.S. degree in an engineering, manufacturing, or applicable technical discipline

• Minimum Five years working in an engineering/design or manufacturing/process role

• Minimum Five years working in a Supplier Quality, Quality Assurance, or Supply Chain role

• The desire and ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30%

• Auditing experience – quality system elements, process audits, PPAP audits, etc

• Fluent in English (speaking and written) and preferable have ability to speak in Mandarin as the job responsibilities and business communication needs, candidates with Mandarin proficiency are required for this role

• Expertise in applying and executing 8D, PPAP, APQP, Control Plans, and other quality tools

• Expertise in Problem Solving and applying root cause corrective action tools

• Working knowledge of registered quality system elements and features; ISO9001:20015, ITAR16949, etc.

• Ability to lead, coach, and communicate to all levels of a supplier’s organization (Operator to President/CEO)

• Capable of representing supplier quality function during customer audits and project work

• Ability to work independently, with remote supervision

• Direct interaction experience with suppliers – domestic and internationally

• Being an advocate of the suppliers, but also remaining focused on Watlow and customer’s needs

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and tools

• Ability to recognize potential safety issues during supplier visits

• Ability to communicate directly with customers relating to supplier quality function in audits, report outs, etc.

• Understand and apply engineering specifications, prints, drawings, standards, etc.

• Familiarity with products produced by Watlow; heaters, sensors, and controls

• Experience in Metal and plastics, wire & cables, tubing in Semiconductor manufacturing is added advantage.
