We are hiring a Senior Manager, Mechanical for a data centre operator in Johor Bahru.
This is a senior individual-contributor role, providing mechanical engineering advice to the team running a live data centre campus. You will help resolve complex cooling issues, investigate equipment failures and improve maintenance practices and long‑term system reliability.
What you will be doing: You will provide technical advice on chillers, chilled‑water systems, cooling towers, pumps, CRAHs, CRACs and related mechanical equipment. The role involves supporting major mechanical incidents, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions prevent repeat failures. You will review cooling capacity, redundancy, equipment performance and mechanical risks, while helping operations teams improve preventive, predictive and condition‑based maintenance. You will also review operating, maintenance and emergency procedures and change‑management practices, work with equipment manufacturers and contractors to resolve recurring problems, and support equipment replacement planning and improvements in energy and water efficiency, including PUE and WUE.
Who we are looking for: We would like to hear from mechanical engineering specialists who have worked directly with live mission‑critical systems. You should have strong cooling‑system knowledge and practical experience troubleshooting failures, supporting incidents and advising operations teams. You should also be comfortable working with equipment manufacturers and maintenance contractors, reviewing maintenance practices and identifying risks that could affect system reliability.
Data centre experience is preferred, although relevant experience in other mission‑critical environments will also be considered. Liquid‑cooling experience would be useful, but it is not essential.
The important part is having direct operational and maintenance experience, rather than a background focused only on equipment supply or project delivery.
