Job summary

Galatek Penang seeks a Senior / Lead NPI Process Engineer to bridge China R&D and Penang manufacturing. You will own full-cycle transitions of complex electromechanical, laser and optical systems from R&D to stable high-yield production lines.

You will drive EVT to MP phase-gates, design for manufacturability, establish BOMs and ECOs, and lead cross-border collaboration while developing standardized assembly, calibration and testing procedures to achieve zero-defect, high-throughput output.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Automation Engineering.
• 5+ years in NPI or Process Engineering within semiconductor capital equipment.
• Proven track record leading at least 2 full NPI lifecycles from prototype to high-volume production.
• Hands-on with precision assembly, electrical schematics, pneumatics and quality tools PFMEA, SPC, GR&R, Cpk, 8D.
• Professional fluency in English and Mandarin for daily technical collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead Phase-Gate ownership from EVT to MP and manage production readiness reviews.
• Define DFX and design optimization with China R&D to reduce build complexity and cost.
• Establish initial manufacturing BOMs, assembly routing and ECO/ECN processes.
• Act as cross-border liaison aligning China R&D, local supply chains and Penang production.
• Develop and standardize assembly procedures for high-speed spindles and precision platforms.
• Define testing protocols for sub-modules and fully integrated machines (laser, optics, motion).
• Draft IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and implement PFMEA, Control Plans, Poka-Yoke and OCAPs.
• Utilize SPC, Cpk, GR&R and 8D to eliminate line stops and train bilingual visual SOPs.

The Role: Bring Next-Gen Equipment from 0 → 1 and 1 → N

We are seeking a hands-on, high-impact Senior / Lead NPI Process Engineer to serve as the critical technical bridge between our China R&D headquarters and our Penang manufacturing operations.

In this dual-focus role, you won't just manage project timelines—you will own the full-cycle transition of complex electromechanical, laser, and optical systems from initial R&D blueprints to a stable, high-yield manufacturing line. You will drive NPI phase-gates (EVT to MP) while designing, validating, and scaling the actual shop-floor assembly, calibration, and testing processes.

What You Will Own

• Phase-Gate Ownership: Lead prototype builds and low-volume pilot runs through EVT, DVT, PVT, and MP stages; manage production readiness reviews.
• DFX & Design Optimization: Conduct rigorous DFM, DFA, DFT, and DFS reviews on high-precision electromechanical and optical subsystems. Partner directly with China R&D to drive design changes that lower build complexity and cost.
• BOM & Engineering Changes: Establish initial manufacturing BOMs, define assembly routing, and manage ECO/ECN processes during transition.
• Cross-Border Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary technical contact aligning China R&D, local supply chains, and Penang production teams.
• Precision Assembly & Tooling: Develop and standardize assembly procedures for high-speed spindles, precision motion platforms, fluid/pneumatic routing, and optical alignments. Design custom jigs, calibration fixtures, and assembly tooling.
• System Calibration & Testing Setup: Define and deploy functional testing protocols for sub-modules and fully integrated machines (laser focus/power tuning, motion platform calibration, vision system alignment).
• Process Validation & Quality Systems: Draft and execute IQ/OQ/PQ protocols. Implement PFMEAs, Control Plans, Poka-Yoke (error-proofing), and Out-of-Control Action Plans (OCAPs).
• Yield Optimization & Training: Use statistical tools (SPC, Cpk, GR&R) and 8D root-cause methodologies to eliminate line stops and yield bottlenecks. Draft bilingual visual SOPs and train line technicians.

What We Are Looking For

Core Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
• Experience: 5+ years of dedicated NPI or Process Engineering experience in semiconductor capital equipment or complex, ultra-precision mechatronics.
• NPI Track Record: Proven experience leading at least 2 full NPI lifecycles from prototype stage to high-volume production.
• Technical Depth: Hands-on experience with precision mechanical assembly, electrical schematics, pneumatics, and quality tools (PFMEA, SPC, GR&R, Cpk, 8D).
• Language Requirement: Professional fluency in both English and Mandarin (written and spoken) is strictly required for daily technical collaboration and documentation exchange with our China R&D team.

Preferred Technical Background (Nice-to-Have)

• Equipment Expertise: Direct experience with wafer dicing saws, laser slicing/stealth dicing, wafer breakers, hybrid bonders, or optical inspection (AOI/Overlay) systems.
• CAD & Electrical Tools: Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD) for fixture design, or EPLAN for electrical schematics.
• Cleanroom & Precision Standards: Familiarity with ISO cleanroom environments, ESD protective standards (ANSI/ESD S20.20), or SEMI standards (S2/S8).
• Certifications: Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, PMP, or experience with IQ/OQ/PQ process validation.
