Job summary

Space Makers in Kuala Lumpur seeks a senior Interior Designer to lead and develop the design team. You will review 2D/3D drawings, ensure accuracy, and guide designers on joinery and space planning.

With 5+ years of experience, you will communicate across departments and drive quality improvements while managing multiple projects to deadlines. A strong focus on cabinetry, detail, and client communication is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in interior design, with team-leading or senior-level experience.
• Proficient in 2D drawings, detailing, space planning and construction drawings.
• Strong joinery knowledge and cabinetry detailing.
• Able to review drawings independently and detect mistakes before production.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the Interior Design team in daily project progress and design execution.
• Review and QC 2D & 3D drawings for submission or construction to ensure accuracy.
• Cross-check drawings including dimensions, materials, cabinetry details and site requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to designers with strong joinery knowledge.
• Identify drawing mistakes and potential site issues before they become problems.
• Ensure adherence to drawing standards, workflow and timelines.
• Monitor project progress and follow up on overdue drawings and revisions.
• Guide designers in solving design, technical and space-planning issues.
• Communicate with Sales, Project and Site teams to ensure clear information.
• Reduce back-and-forth by providing clear decisions and instructions.
• Coach junior/mid designers to improve design quality and efficiency.
• Maintain high standards of attention to detail, accountability and quality control.

What You’ll Do:

Lead and support the Interior Design team in daily project progress and design execution.

Review and QC 2D & 3D drawings before submission or construction to ensure accuracy, completeness and buildability.

Cross-check drawings carefully, including dimensions, materials, cabinetry details, electrical points and site requirements.

Possess strong joinery/ cabinetry knowledge and provide technical guidance to designers.

Identify drawing mistakes, missing details and potential site issues before they become construction problems.

Ensure designers follow company drawing standards, workflow and project timelines.

Monitor project progress and follow up on overdue drawings, revisions and pending tasks.

Guide designers in solving design, technical and space-planning issues.

Communicate effectively with Sales, Project and Site teams to ensure design information is clear and accurate.

Reduce unnecessary back-and-forth communication between departments by providing clear decisions and instructions.

Coach and develop junior/mid-level designers to improve their design, technical knowledge, accuracy and efficiency.

Maintain high standards of *attention to detail, accountability and quality control** across the design team.

What We Are Looking For:

Proficiency in Mandarin is required as the role involves communicating with Mandarin-speaking clients.

Minimum 5 years of experience in Interior Design, preferably with team-leading or senior-level experience.

Strong knowledge of 2D drawings, detailing, space planning and construction drawings.

Strong understanding of custom cabinetry/ joinery detailing and installation.

Able to review drawings independently and detect mistakes before production or site execution.

Highly detail-oriented, organized and responsible.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Able to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.

Comfortable giving constructive feedback and holding team members accountable.

Good understanding of renovation/site processes will be an advantage.

Proficient in relevant interior design and drafting software.
